Don't be too impressed. You can find EVERYTHING with Google. Even Morse translators. MY communication skills begin and end with: "Wow, that IS a really cool antenna! it took you how long to construct that? wow! Here, send this and then we're leaving."

Ok, I won't pain you with the IMC, LOL. As cynical as that may be, you are probably right.

So who here beleives that when all commercial infrastructure is lost, (the stuff that makes our lives comfortable) and we resort to home made radios, will IMC play a significant role?

Never throw out a tool...never discount a capability...when I survey, I have GPS, robotic instruments and hand held computers to complete my projects...I also carry a compass, steel measuring tape, and pad and paper...you never know when the technology is not going to be enough to complete a project...and communications-wise, I've used an ad-hoc form of semaphore to communicate when the radios went down...IMC, semaphore, shadow-stick method...helps to know a lotta stuff I learned or tried in the Boy Scouts.

If there is one thing I've learned from the latest SCI-FI movies is that IMC will be the best form of commo that the world will fall back on when everything else fails. I just love how all those movies show that the military can find enough leg keys and competent operators who can send and receive 5x5 traffic at the flick of a switch.
However, I'm here to tell you that code doesn't get through Mariachi music if you have to make a long shot and the music is closer to the receiving end.
