Oregon FFL & Sales Tax

For anyone who might know
Math word problem:
Me and one of my buddies just ordered a couple of OBR's from Larue. If we have them shipped to a dealer in WA, then we're going to be hit with WA sales tax which is going to run around $200 per rifle. It's about 300 miles round trip from Tacoma to Portland. My car gets right around 25mpg highway. If gas is around $3.00/gal then that should be $36 round trip or $18 each for me and my buddy...
-In WA, to register/purchase a firearm you just need a copy of your orders and your military ID. Is this the same for Oregon?
-Does the Oregon no sales tax thing apply to firearms?
-If so, does anyone have a particular favorite firearms dealer in or around Portland whom I should visit my patronage upon?

How about I use the Alexander the Great method (sword through the Gordian knot) to solve this problem?

Have the weapons shipped to the MWR outdoor adventure center on North Fort and pay zero sales tax....

I'm just sayin'.....

I talked to The Gun Broker in Portland and they will do it for $50 FFL fee + $10 for the police check (no sales tax) but if I can do it on North Fort and avoid the drive and taxes, we'll do it that way.

$50 fee??? Here in the impoverished state of Arizona the charge is from $25 to $35

Even MWR on Ft Huachuca charges $25 but of course no tax.

Different gun shops in Oregon have different fees.
I understand some fee because the gun shop is doing all the transfer paper work on their FFL and do background for an item they are not selling and then have to file and store that paper work subject to federal inspection until the end of time.

Exactly, also gun shops sell guns. Like going into a cafe with your own bacon and eggs and asking them to cook them for you at a big discount. Stores varies in what they charge in Oregon, I have seen it down to $20 plus the $10 Back ground check that the state charges the dealer.

Also there is PIA aspect to it. A dealer that I know stopped doing the transfer because customers thought that sense they bought the firearm through, let say, Gunbrokers and had it shipped to the dealer, the dealer was responsible for any problems. Personally, If I had my FFL again, I would never do transfers for strangers. Probably another reason for the higher fees in some stores.

Ah Bill, you are right and I'm wrong, darnit. And I just obtained a Ruger LCP days ago. I should've known better!

If your willing to drive down to Eugene the shop I deal with will do it for a 20 dollar fee plus the ten dollar background check. If you gave them a call they may even waive the normal 20 dollar fee as your a QP. Bill H knows the shop I'm talking about and the General Manager personally. He's also a member on here. PM me if you need contact info.

I talked to the MWR at North Fort this morning and they do receive firearm shipments tax free as RichL025 suggested

. So, I'll be going that route. Apparently I missed or forgot about that little tidbit of info from the commander's/frg's welcome brief...

Seems important enough to me that they must have mentioned that the MWR has an FFL at some point in the brief. Where's the gym? Where's the chowhall? And how do I get my guns here? are really the only topics that should be addressed in those things anyway, IMO

True, but there's also the customer service factor. I've continued to patronize shops that have helped me out with transfers for a reasonable fee, and have stopped going to shops that wouldn't. A $20 fee today could very well turn into hundreds or thousands of dollars of continued business.
