'Machete' is quite a fall from 'Taxi Driver'! Robert Rodriguez (movies financed on a Sears card) is a long way from Martin Scorcese. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Hey - looks more entertaining than all those Mexican chupacabra vampire movies we used to get on one of the 3 channels (ABC, CBS, NBC) on our b/w TVs growing up.

And so it goes...

I think your timing is accurate. Combine cuts to various social programs with pressures on police budgets, add in economic distress, and one gets a volatile mix. Films such as Machete seem likely to heighten the existing tensions.

What the F*%k...

At first I thought this was some kind of joke. Then the imdb page... what the devil inspired anyone to make this film...

Money.

Take a group...let various activists promote a sense of grievance...then offer products to pander to such emotions. The mainstream will deplore the violence, which will give a further sense of empowerment and excitement to the group. And the sellers of such material will do very well.

Others will then seek to exploit the same niche market. Then someone will decide to imitate fiction.

Like I said - long hot summer.

I think it's a movie that will probably meet with average box office earnings, be moderately entertaining, and slip quietly to dvd. I doubt it will raise border tensions. It is after all, a tongue in cheek comedy.

I would like it better if Salma Hayak was in it...

Oh, come on nmap! Do you really expect us to believe that pap?

Afterall, their were tons of 'black exploitation' movies with lots of violence in the 60's and nothing... umm...

Nevermind
