It's amazing that even some fruit is tied to racism/prejudice. No, I take that back, it's plain stupid. And, in the end, Obama has not been able to convince the American public on most of his policies based on their merit. Which says a lot about his policies.

There's a long history to it all...way too long, IMO.

And as far as Dan Rather goes...he's been his own worst enemy for a long time.

Richard's $.02

Watermelons, Strawberry soda, Fried Chicken, what is considered prejudiced or racist depends on who you are...

Dan Rather?

Dan Rather is out there, very strange gaffe for someone with so much experience in the public eye. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't care for watermelon or fried chicken.

Rather is crazy as a shit house rat and has been for years.
He wanted to be Walter Cronkite so bad I believe it eventually unhinged his mind.

Fried chicken gizzards are easier to eat in the car. Four packs of Texas Pete, a large gizzards and a Diet Pepsi make a good drivin' lunch.

Actually, it's a more complex question than it seems!

"According to the USDA since Watermelon is planted from seeds or seedlings, harvested, and then cleared from the field like other vegetables. AND, since watermelon is grown as a vegetable crop using vegetable production systems, watermelon is considered a vegetable (Wolford, 2004). According to the USDA, watermelon is a vegetable just like cucumbers, pumpkins and squash."

However I agree that Rather's statement appears racist.
