Don't you wonder where this clown was headed? New York? Groton? Boston?

Events are moving quickly, and I hope (pray) the LEO's can keep up.

I would like to get the facts before assuming too much.

Call me jaded but something tells me if this were a white male they would have listed all three of his names (first, middle and last) in the news.

2 Arrested After Connecticut Police Find Car Filled With Explosives

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

Two people were arrested after authorities in Connecticut stopped a car full of explosives in a New Haven residential neighborhood.

Police charged 38-year-old John Iannucci of Branford and 27-year-old Jessup Bollinger of New Haven with manufacture of bombs, illegal possession of explosives and other charges.

Both men were being held on $500,000 bond. It was unclear if they had attorneys.

New Haven Officer Joseph Avery says police don't know if the suspects planned to use the explosives, because they're not talking much to investigators.

FBI New Haven spokesman William Reiner told FOXNews.com that the bureau is now helping local police in the probe, but declined to elaborate.

Cops pulled over a motorist Tuesday night allegedly driving a car full of pipe bombs, rifles and a propane tank in New Haven around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to FOX 61.

SLIDESHOW: Bomb-Packed Car Case

A bomb squad was called in and a silver Mercedes was towed away, according to FOX 61. There have been no reports of injuries.

Authorities closed off a four-block area because of the danger posed by the explosives, but did not evacuate. The explosives were detonated without incident.

"This is a great example of the importance of residents communicating with police about things that look suspicious and the swift and thoughtful response of our officers," said Assistant Chief of Police Ken Gillespie.

Iannucci was also arrested by East Haven police in March on bomb-making and explosives charges after a device exploded inside a vehicle he was driving, police said. He was released on $25,000 bond.

East Haven Sgt. Bruce Scobie said Iannucci, who was unemployed at the time of his earlier arrest, told them he didn't intend to harm anyone, but didn't give a reason for why he had the explosives.

"I think he was experimenting with this stuff and playing with it like a kid plays with fireworks," Scobie said.

East Haven police said they searched his home where they found a few cases of a mixture that can be used to make explosives and cartridges that can be used for grenade launchers.

Yes, sir. In the meantime maybe keep these two locked up for their own protection?

Mercedes???????

"A bomb squad was called in and a silver Mercedes was towed away......."

A Mercedes?

No wonder they got pulled.

If they would have been in a SUV they would have been GTG.

If you take PVC pipe and make M-80s out of it, IIRC, technically, you have created a pipe bomb. A can of powder is technically an explosive.

I would be cautious of jumping to the conclusion that these two guys were terrorists or bent on mayhem. Stupid, maybe. Sounds to me like they were driving around lighting homemade fireworks, but all of the facts are not in yet.

Police say many military guns, several pounds of explosive material and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were discovered in an outbuilding. In addition, military manuals, uniforms, and maps were seized.

Been to CT lately?

I drove through via I-95 in both directions last week, so I can fully understand.

Sympathize even.

I'll be doing it again this weekend, so if you see a green 79 MB wagen on the news, hoist a cold one.
