Another case of some old news which will now become a major 'new' news pol-mil foofarah because it's been printed in the MSM and names all those "unidentified top-level sources." I wonder how this will play among BHOs international pals after his Dem-tough sound-byte of we'll go after al-Quada wherever they are...borders and national sovereignty be hanged?

As much as I despise the NYT, I can't blame them for printing the story (I would expect PATRIOTIC news organizations NOT TO), but I want to go after the guys who are leaking this...
Today it was the press, tomorrow who knows...these people (leakers) need to do HARD time, loss of pay, loss of retirement, in a VERY public manner to chill / stop leaks.

I believe that SF is a 'calling' - not too different from the calling missionaries I know received. I knew instantly that it was for me, and that I would do all I could to achieve it. Most others I know in SF experienced something similar. If, as you say, you HAVE searched and read, and you do not KNOW if this is the path for you --- it is not....

Just a few quick points...
OK, so the "cat" is out of the bag..... but is it really? NYT has been printing classified and privledged information relating to GWOT starting Sept 12th, 2001. There have been how many "Inside Delta Force" type tell all books written regarding SF and US SOF activities..especially since Sept 11th? My question is who benefits from this information "leaking" out? I would argue that AQ members do not benefit greatly and that they are already painfully aware that all SOF along with the alphabet soup civilian agencies cross borders to capture and or kill them or send our technology over borders to the same end. Maybe some of AQ's supporters and sympathizers may benfit from the leak and make them think twice about joining the jihad...but not the truly committed they are willing to die for their beliefs. POTUS stated (paraphrasing) to the entire world that the US will bring justice to the terrorists and to those that support them...where ever that may be. So again, no secret there. US SOF and conventional units have been bagging bad guys since day one despite all the NYT (et all) best efforts and all the media attention..hell there are playing cards at Spencers with all the top AQ/Terror targets on them.
If today's news is truly a classified leak who benefits from the revelation? Is it possible that the NYT has been sitting on this until after the election to keep the news cycle cranking? Is it possible it is some IO campaign? Or is it simply someone with an axe to grind looking to make a name for himself with the media? Or something else I am missing?
I just wonder why all these leaks occur which on the surface appear to be utterly devastating to our war effort and you never see or hear anyone hanging at the end of a rope- you never hear about an investigation...nothing. Then the story evetually fades away until the next time. Just seems suspicious to me.

If the incoming administration follows the historical blueprint, they will reward the leakers for "outing the corrupt and decadent practices of the previous administration", then marginalize the sources to prevent them from doing the same thing to their new masters when the political winds change again. The problem is propaganda.
We might be doing it, and if we are then they darn sure know it - they just can't prove it.
Now anytime somebody is hit they can blaim the US, after all, they read it in the paper.
Now some thug dictator can hit opposition leaders and say "Hey, must have been the US."
The spin cycle will be pointing the finger at us/US.

The intent of the article in the first link that Richard provided is made clear not only by the headline but by the caption for the photo. It reads "Mourners shouted anti-American slogans on Oct. 27 in Syria at the funeral of someone killed in a cross-border United States raid."
Those folks at the Gray Lady sure don't stop in their quest for facts as part of their broader mission to establish social justice world-wide.

I have been thinking about this one and I have been wondering if this was not an intentional leak. Think about it. Terrorists have gotten used to feeling safe in certain countries because they believed that we could not or would not go after them. Now with the breaking of this story they have something to think about. Even if the story is true, and it may not be, these missions are going to be few an far between. In the meantime, if we can't get to these terrorists it is at least better to keep them nervous and looking over their shoulder.
