yea...he has quite a history behind him. Unfortunate how things panned out at the end of his career. Brought on by himself though, in my book at least.

LTG Boykin was just on Foxnews yesterday..... It looked to be his "first" time on there as a consultant.

I just read the book and I thought it was really well written. I think the press made more of out of context religious quotes than was really there. He has always been forth coming about his Christianity. I have spoken with him a couple of times and found him to be extremely sincere. I have no idea what it is like to work for him, but the book is good- covers a broad and interesting life span.

I worked with him on and off over the years and he even spoke at my retirement ceremony. (And later joined me at my retirement party....)

jw74,

I have also read the book and I think he's quite a man....His christianity is what made him what he was. We could use more of his kind in the service.

Agreed. I've read books by Col. Rowe, Col Bank, MSgt Howe, Col. Beckwith, and others and I am always amazed by the things a focused man can do. As a Christian, it has been highly instructive and encouraging to see how Col. Rowe and Gen. Boykin leaned on their faith to get through the challenges.

What struck me about Boykin's book is that he always seems more focused on duty to country, God, and the men he served with than what board he will chair upon retirement.

LTG Boykin is on CSPAN Book TV this weekend. 4 AM Monday, or better yet, streaming video here on demand. Program lasts 1 hr 50 min and was recorded on Sept 14 of this year.

Interesting.

Anyway, I have spoken to him and was under his command for some time. He always came across as a very sincere man and devoted to GOD (yeah, GOD) and his Country. To me, the man is an inspiration and has put himself at great risk throughout his career for the sake of others. In fact, I would bet that a very small percentage of us here have anywhere near the combat/special operations experience he has. And yet, he does not come on as a tough guy, or know-it-all - very rare indeed.

I just viewed the streaming video, and it was an unusual choice for CSPAN, but it was interesting. Also, it only lasts 55 minutes, not the 1 hr 50 min they have listed.
