Any NAZI buffs??? Need I.D. help w/ photo

Anyone here a NAZI buff? I purchased this photo at a local thrift store and am trying to I.D. any of these jokers. The uniforms bear the "SS" runes and the caps bear the "death's head". The officer on the right of the photo, behind the car, has 4 pips on his collar, which I believe was a regimental affiliation or something similar.

The guy getting restrained looks really familiar, but I can't put my finger on it and my google-fu is failing me. I can provide a more detailed scan of any of the faces, at request.

Any help?

The photo is punched, along the right side, with the words "APPROVED BY BOARD OF SENSORS" and is flanked by the upper case letters "P" and "Q".

I purchased this along with two issues of the NY Times:

1- the JUNE 6th, 1944 edition "ALLIED ARMIES LAND IN FRANCE"

and

2- the SEP 28th, 1964 edition "WARREN COMMISSION FIND OSWALD GUILTY"

...all for $5. I was pretty pleased with the purchases. Leave it to VTers to not know the value of history...

The weapons appear to be post-WWII French MAT 49s. Given that and the clarity of the photo, I'd say it's either staged or a movie still.

The weapon looks more like a Schmeisser MP-40 SMG to me.

the two other Submachine guns' identities are not readily apparent to me at this time.

Nazi ID

I agree totally with the first comment...this is not a Nazi authentic photo but post WWII Europe imitation. The SMG is a MAT49 (French) and the Germans in helmet are representing Wermacht ensignia on same. The soldiers physically manhandling the wounded german office (Wermacht) are wearing what appears to be Italian headgear and uniforms. The German with the four diamond collar is representing a SS Major with deathhead on cap I believe. But not authentic WWII photo....Regimental affiliation would be displayed on sleeve collor. Will provide more information but need to pull out the books.

Nazi

The guard on the right does have an SS emblem on his helmet. The softcaps could also be german...A closer look with my glasses determined that they have german shoulder epallettes on the uniforms. Thus Not Italian.

It does look like a movie still. The shadows are all filled in, not just the close ones that a flash would reach. The haircuts a suspicious as well. Everyone seems to be placed to balance the shot. Great depth-of-field. The wounded guy seems to be pointing an accusatory finger at the guy next to the drivers-side door as would happen in a movie but rarely in real life.

SMGs

I placed the photo under magnification It appears that all the SMGs have a Block/square receiver group and all appear to be Mat49s. All three officers (billed caps) are representing SS. All other soldiers are most likely representing SS with the exception of sentry near left of picture. Displays generic Wermacht emblem on helmut. No one is displaying bands on their sleeve cuffs so no particular unit being represented. Probably a photo take from a movie production.

Just my two cents.

Guys with SMGs have SS uniforms, Heer helmets (Tricolor shield). If they were SS, depending on the year, it would be a shield with the lightning bolts and the red shield/swastikas.

The guy with the four pips could be a Strumbannfuehrer (Major) or an Oberstrumbannfuehrer (LTC). I can't tell on my monitor.

The weapons aren't MP-38s or MP-40s. They had a folding stock, but it folded under the weapon.

And something about their hairstyles just doesn't scream "World War Two" to me, either.

Yep, no cuff titles on the left sleeve.

The license plate on the right vehicle looks to have SS registration.

I am not a Nazi buff but I have done extensive research on my wife's uncles who were German SS troops who died in WWII. I have researched several photos from this era and am quite certain your photo is not authentic. I am attaching a sample page of WWII photos from a very useful site. You will instantly notice that the clarity of your picture is in stark contrast to those presented on this website, as well as photos I have from that era.

Another telltale sign is the "tailored" look of your uniforms. I found that only formal posed shots involved the crisp tailored look as opposed to the dishelveled look of the uniform commonly seen in snapshots of soldiers in the field.

Just my two cents worth.

Another Link found on PS.Com

I knew we had someone post a large number of WWII photos in the past. Here it is for comparison purposes.

Ok... How about 'The Longest Day'? (A 1962 war flick)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Longest_Day_%28film%29
Could that be Vicco von Bulow with the cast
and Wolfgang Lukschy as Generaloberst Alfred Jodl
The tall officer on the far side of the car, frame right?

No point in commenting on the BMW or the Vehicle License since... it's just Hollywood.
