I have spent many-many-many nights in Rochester. I worked for Big Blue and
the Rochester plant was the sister plant to mine in Boca.
95% of the time I stayed at the Hoffman House,, which is now the Ramada Inn.

Mid-size, with large bar & restaurant, indoor pool, next to US 52, across
the street from the Apache Mall, easy access from the airport on the south
side of town,, or about 45 minute drive to the twin-cities.
It's been 15 years sence the last trip,, there may be newer hotels &
motels,, but this one was always consistent..
A couple caveats in dealing with MN weather..
1)always park with your front bumper embedded in the snow bank,, snow only
get to 32 deg,, and should allow your radiator fluid to flow..
2)always keep a butane lighter in your pocked,, to heat your car key so you
can unlock the car
3)always get up at least one hour early and go out and start the car,, it
should be warm by the time you bath and eat a good hot meal,, if it doesn't
start, call the car rental for a jump start,, it also takes about an hour..
4)fill your bath tub with water at night before you go to bed,, leave a
towel draped into the water over the side. It will evaporate the complete 40
gallons over night and keep the humidity at an acceptable level,, around
25%.
5)ask for a room by the indoor pool, but be prepared to move for the
weekend,, they have the rooms reserved for years in advance for the locals,,
they treat the place as a vacation resort,, the pool is heated..
6)learn to talk NHL HOCKEY, or prepared to be bored in the bar..
7)learn the local language:

8)if the geese are in town,, visit the lake, down town, wear chemical
boots, the geese shitte is about 2" think, black, & gooey,, but there can be
100,000 in the water,, spectacular when they lift off..
You might think it's funny,, but MN winters(August thru June) are very very cold.
My 1st trip there was in January of 1974, for a one week business trip,, Prior to my arrival, it had been below ZERO for 100 days,, it was so dry I had nose bleeds daily,, when I returned I asked my boss why had he sent me??
He said "I wanted to make sure you didn't ask for a transfer"........
To their benefit,, the people of Rochester are very friendly & gracious,,
it's just to dam cold...
Good Luck,, Dress Warm..
