Why do the believers in Islam hate us
This maybe pretty simplistic!! Why do the Muslins hate the infidels? Simply because they got left behind 500 years ago.
They once dominated the known world, with the exception of their oil, they are completely unimportant and powerles.

Because their leaders need for them to hate us, to keep the anger focused externally.

I'm not altogether sure that is a fair question. It is similar to asking why all priests are pedophiles.
OTOH it is also the opinion of most Christian religions that all infidels will go to hell!!
One religions believer is another's infidel.

I think that the question might be asked why do Muslims hate themselves?
"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities - but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."
-Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 (London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899).

I believe if the majority of Muslims in the world did in fact care about non-Muslims, we would not be having the problems we are having right now.

You are most right on this subject. If you are poor or whatever it must be caused by the evil west. Focus on them not me, your country's leader.
As with the communists, if the people have no pot to piss in and you promise them a pot they will follow you. Once you take power you just kill off any and all who ask "Hey, where is my pot?".

the Hadj celebarates, among other things, Hagar's struggle for survival after being forced from the household of Abraham and Sarah...an angel told Hagar her offspring by Abraham would multiply her seed exceedingly...quoting Genesis 16:12 "and he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren..." Mohammed maintains that Ishmael, the son of Abraham and Hagar, is the source of the Islamic tribes, much as the offspring of Abraham and Sarah are the sources of the twelve tribes of Israel...in Chapter 17, verse 20, God tells Abraham "and as for Ishmael, I have heard thee. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes he will beget, and I will make him a great nation." these themes of Hagar's rejection and humiliation at the hands of the mother of Israel (and by extension through the House of David, of Christianity) played out frequently while i was in the box monitoring sermons and propaganda eminating from Iran, Lebanon and other potential adversaries...if one accepts (as Mohammed did) the Old Testament notion that a great nation would rise from the bastard offspring of a humiliated handmaiden, and that this nation would be in constant struggle with the legitimate offspring of a common father within the region, then the themes of avenging Israeli and Western (read Christian) humiliations of the past 3-4000 years can be explained in that context...i guess...
a whole culture with self-esteem problems, all going back to a spousal directed dalliance with the hired help...
i have no sympathy for them...

Sound argument.
Please allow me to share a view from a grocery man in a certain SE country w/ major moslem population in late 90's (in some 3rd world country, folks sell vegetables in the morning on carts from door to door)
Average common folk, a wife, 3 kids, went every morning to get his goods to resell. Sold the vegetables, made decent profit, bought food for the day for the family.
One day, he found out the price of the goods had increased. Not good. It'd be harder to resell this way.
Not much explanation was offered. Only thing he heard on TV and radio was that the currency exchange of US Dollar to local currency had increased.
The trend continued day by day, life got harder, and he kept hearing the same reason. He had no clue what yankee was, or where the US was, or what a dollar bill looked like. All he knew was life sucked and this US thing made his life miserable. At this point in his mind: US --> evil
While it's true that when the guy went to the mosque that evening, the imam might put "ideas" in his mind to further solidify his hatred on US, globalization and its impact on nations economy put the initial seed. In this case, education should be a feasible solution. Unfortunately, too often the country's leader is aware of this and prevent education & information from reaching the population.......this is where DOL should be implemented IMHO.

nope...not really...when i was about thirteen (right after we got back from my dad's tour in Berlin), a couple of my aunt's were talking with dad about some of his mother's affects (she had passed away while we were overseas)...her birth certificate showed an unknown father "probably a coal miner", and her mother was "an Indian girl"...i asked some questions then but was turned away...the marriage license my grandparent has showed no maiden name for my grandmother...finally, before one of my aunts died, she told me that her mother was ashamed of her (lack of )parentage and never talked about it...my aunt was told by one of my grandfather's sisters...
unlike a Moslem, however, the circumstances of my grandmother's birth do not humiliate me...i figure none of us have to go back too far before we start running into relatives who procreated without a license...

That has certainly been the case in my research! And it sure is a distraction from the mundane!

Other than changing that to "some of their leaders", I agree entirely.
