'We Did It' Letters Eyed in NY Bombing

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police are investigating letters that arrived Thursday at Capitol Hill offices containing a photo of the Times Square military recruiting office before it was bombed and including the claim "We Did It."

The manila envelopes contained a photo of a man standing in front of the recruiting station, according to a Democratic aide who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter is under investigation. The photo was the kind commonly sent as a holiday greeting card.

The message on the card: "Happy New Year, We Did It."

The envelope also contained a packet of approximately 10 sheets of paper that seemed to be a political manifesto railing against the Iraq war and a booklet. The aide didn't know what the booklet was.

Postal inspectors were at the Capitol investigating the letters alongside Capitol Police, U.S. Postal Inspection Service spokesman Douglas Bem said. He had no details about the letters' content. A second law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is ongoing, confirmed some of their contents as described by the Democratic aide.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of an e-mail from the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., to other lawmakers Thursday that reads:

"A few offices on the House side have received a letter today addressed to 'Members of Congress' with a picture of a man standing in front of the Times Square recruiting station that was bombed in New York today with the statement 'We did it.' He is standing in front of it with his arms spread out and he's attached his political manifesto."

Authorities advised the recipients to leave the letters alone and call police, the e-mail says.

The man was thin, white with graying hair, wearing a striped flannel shirt and jeans, according to the Democratic aide.

Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, a Capitol Police spokesman, said she had received media calls asking about the letter. She said she had made some initial checks but had not been able to confirm reports of the letter.

The small bomb caused minor damage to the New York military recruiting station before dawn Thursday and police were searching for a hooded bicyclist seen on a surveillance video pedaling away.

The blast left a gaping hole in the front window and shattered a glass door, twisting and blackening its metal frame. No one was hurt, but Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the device, though unsophisticated, could have caused "injury and even death."

Speaking of "blasts" from the past...I was drafted in 1970 and entered the US Army at the Oakland Induction Center, CA. The front of the building and lower entry hallway was boarded up with plywood because it had been bombed by anti-war types a few days prior to us arriving by bus from Sacramento. Guess some things don't change much...they just come around again every now and then.

Thank You for your service. Only wish there was a way to round up all those losers who bomb recruiting stations, and drop them off over in the sand!

Just heard that the, " I did it letter" was not related to the bombing, but was fabricated by some anti-war guy from LA.

In addition to the boarded up front of the Oakland induction center building due to the recent bomb blast, there was a guy in a fully decked out black Waffen SS dress uniform who met our buses and handed out literature telling us not to enter the building but leave and go to Canada. We just smiled as we walked by him.

I heard about this on Friday morning.

The NYPD was quoted in the local NY papers as saying it was an act of "vandalism" not "terrorism". That may have been escalated since then, but either way, whoever did it...dumb asses.

What a great way to convince people who are already against you to come around to your way of thinking. Coerce and threaten them. Yes, that has worked great in the past. As Richard pointed out, it is incredibly depressing to see history repeating itself. For or against the war, it doesn't matter. Lobbing bombs at other American's is a criminal act. Also a naive and childish cry for attention. Like a tantrum thrown by a child who thinks they are not getting enough love.

Why are some people such a bunch of bitches?

I wonder what they would say in their little self congratulating groups if some disgruntled soldiers drove by and threw a bomb into their little rally. Probably a clever quip about storm troopers, police states or some crap. The hypocrisy makes me sick.

It's the same with how all the Democratic politicrats stopped rallying about how they supported the troops once General Petraeus's plans began to have a positive effect. If it's not something they can point to and blame, it's just not worth talking about. I tend to think it's simply because they are either incapable of discussing issues of such complexity or they think their constituents, us, are too stupid to understand.

Either way, is a scathing indictment of our political maturity as a nation.

Times Square Bomber Application Rejected

After an explosion outside a recruiting facility in New York's Times Square, the Army says they are not interested in the perpetrator due to his demonstrated lack of talent at killing foreigners.

Officer Pat O'Malley turns away in disgust at the bombing scene's lack of dead foreigners.
"Frankly, I'd barely even call this an act of vandalism," said Army recruiter Paul Boyce. "There was a pop & a puff of smoke. Total damage - one broken window. Hell, my son breaks more than that playing baseball in our back yard. My point is, the Army is all about killing foreigners. If you can't do that, I don't care about you. The only way a foreigner could've died from this is if he'd breathed the smoke & died of lung cancer. This guy just isn't Army material."

Another recruiter at the station, Terry Leighton, was equally dismissive of the suspect's foreigner killing ability. "Right now, they're suspecting that this guy may have exploded equally pathetic devices outside the Mexican and British consulates. Total number of dead foreigners in those incidents - zero. How could he screw this up? This is New York City! You can practically buy nukes on the street corner, and you can't flick a cigarette butt into the gutter without setting a foreigner on fire. Trust me, I tried it once."

Leighton reminds readers that all potential Army recruits must meet the following requirements:

* Be between 17 and 42 years of age.

* Be an American citizen.

* Enjoy killing foreigners.

* Not be a retarded, bicycle-riding douchebag who explodes devices with less destructive power than a Mentos dropped in a bottle of Diet Coke.
