Mine Clearing

Ran the search function, didn't see the question I have addressed.
Who does it?

By "who does mine clearing" I mean who does the majority the actual work for the purpose of returning areas of conflict to safe(r) civilian use?

By "who", I mean civilian or military and of course I have a reason for asking.

Bill - Surprisingly enough a lot of it's being contracted to civilians, especially in "former" conflict areas.

Interesting, do the civilians have prior military or EOD experience?

Depends on the contractor. The UN is infamous for letting contracts to companies (non-US) with minimal trained experts and a lot of "coolie" labor with sharp sticks. Capability and training run the full gamut; effectiveness depends on the sophistication of the threat. Check out: http://maic.jmu.edu/ordata/Mission.asp for additional "perspective enhancing" information. HTH

Thank you very much.

Edited to add: How much impact does the "anti mine" social justice groups have on actually getting the job done?

The bad guys are going to use mines and boobytraps regardless.

All the social justice (useful idiots) did was to disarm the good guys.

Good news is, when the bad guys take over, the libs will be the first ones shipped off to the camps.

I thought the normal procedure for the bad guys was to shoot the intellectuals and those in power, the rest got to spend time in reeducation camps....
