My Son runs 3.1 miles in 17.44 !!!!
I have to gloat ! My son, Garrett, is a freshman on the Varsity Cross Country Team at Greeley Central High School in Greeley, Colorado. They had an invitational run last week and out of some 295 runners he came in with a time of 17.44 minutes for 3.1 miles. He finished 25th.
His coach, Woody Wilson, mentions him about halfway down the page in this article about the invitational. Way to go Son !!
(Thanks CoLawman for putting me in touch with coach Woody Wilson. One hell of a great guy and mentor for his runners.)

You have my sympathies. Congrats to your son. Tell him he's not that far from 6 minute miles now.

Isn't 3 miles in under 18 minutes sub 6 minute miles?
Congratulations

Ok kids, pay attention as there's a valuable lesson here. Before you hit that "Submit Reply" button, be sure that you re-read the original post so you don't misread a '7' for a '9' and end up looking like you need a refresher in elementary mathematics, like yours truly.
That is all.

Congratulations proud papa. Woody's true worth is his development of his kids into winners in life. The invitational was named for Greeley raised Andy Meyers, a kid who was a phenomenal runner and student who was a member of West Point Cross Country (IIRC) when he was tragically taken from us.
Andy could always be seen running uphill sprints along 16th Street prior to his acceptance into West Point. He would have been a great leader and soldier. Coach Woody played a significant role in what Andy had become. I could recount several others who benefited from Coach Woody's tutelage.
Again congratulations. I will continue to watch his progress.
