Favorite Discontinued MRE
Just wanted to do a little poll of which MRE's have been DX'd that everyone misses. Personally, I miss Tuna with Noodles(always easy to pick up without any good trade fodder) and Frankfurters, aka "baby dicks" I always thought that when eaten on crackers they were reminescent of venison summer sausage. My experience is limited to mid-90's on, so I look forward to seeing what meals guys miss from before my time.

Miss MREs?
Guys,
I don't miss any of the MRE meals. I am sorry that you younger guys don't get to experience LRRPs or PIRs.

I agree. Never had a MRE. Think the last time I was deployed for any reason I ate with the indige: Brochen, wurst, und eine grosse Spieze

PIR's?
Hi Richard,
I remember C's (we had them during SFQC the eggs and ham were not bad, the chocolate gut roll was good for water crossings), LRRP's and ate MRE's to inlude the US humanitarian version in Iraq but what are PIR's?
thanks
Chet

RE: PIRs
"...but what are PIR's?"
The PIR was the Indigenous Patrol Ration similar to the LRRP but developed for the Free World Military Forces in RVN (ARVN, ROK, THAI and our Montagnard, Meo, Khmer, Hmong, and Nung troops) with their normal diets of rice and a protein source (dried fish, ham, pieces of octopus tentacle, etc.). Y'all missed a real treat!

Really enjoyed the PIR's...used to carry the spiced beef & "donkey dicks" in my cargo pocket for snacks on the run...didn't care too much for the "purple rice" though...the rice was ok, just had to get used to eating it purple. The fish & squid was good too.

Mostly miss the c's, never had the PIR's, although the MRE ham slices will do in a pinch.
Of course all of it would wash down good with a little VB from slcraig's area. Sure wish our aussie brothers would export some of the good stuff.

Ah, good old VB...I normally drink Fourex when I have a beer, but VB will do in a pinch. Don't know too much about exporting, but will gladly buy the beer for any who decide to come this way for a visit. And we'll even throw some of our national emblem on the barbie...nothing like a bit of 'roo steak.

Amen. And they replaced menu item #17 with Sloppy Joe Mix? I'd rather have mama birds vomit in my mouth.
You could have had Country Captain Chicken, and you took Beef Teryaki?
