FOGgy memories of Fidel

News about Fidel reminds me of the day we almost invaded Cuba--again. I was completing SF training at Ft. Bragg in October 1962 at height of Cuban missile crisis when order came to report to Pope AFB with full combat load. We boarded C-124s along with 82nd and went into a holding pattern for what seemed like forever somewhere off south Atlantic coast. It was hot and turbulent. Idon't know who was the first to blow lunch, but it was catching. Then order came to return to base. If I recall correctly, we had option of riding back in the aircraft, or jumping. Easy choice. I was never so happy to clear the door.
