SoftTarget:
Good point but, respectfully, I see no pressing need to try to do something about attempted brainwashing in academia:
1) I'm not convinced it works. Remember, those who subject captive audiences to their politics are rarely interested in using reason and persuasion. They have attitudes, more than opinions; they're venting, and they expect everyone to agree. In my experience even many liberal students tend to resent it. I'd venture that overbearing leftist profs turn off more kids than they win over.
2) You want these people out in the real world? Here I think of PJ O'Rourke's description of a librarian's face, when he told her he was researching a comparison between Bangladesh and Fremont, CA. "She gave me a warm, encouraging smile. I was obviously insane but how nice for me that I had something to occupy my time." This is more or less my attitude toward more than one radical professor.
