Fiesta Bowl

Anybody watch that game last night?

It was a fun game to watch. Boise State definitely deserves a crack at Ohio.

LOL and Michigan was the best team in the country next to Ohio State right? haha

I would put Boise State going 6-6 at best in the Big 10 or the SEC if they had to play a full season of tough competition week in and week out.....

It was a GREAT game though.

As a graduate of the University of Wisconsin I regret the fact that the Badgers did not have the chance to play OSU due to the B10 (11) unbalanced schedule. Considering how we have pretty much owned OSU, especially in the "shoe", over the past 6 years I would have loved to see that game.

Sadly, for college football fans the University Presidents don't want to generate billions of dollars in additional revenue by creating a playoff series. It doesn't have to be big but it seems like there is at least one team each year that has a legitimate complaint about not having the chance to play for the title.

Talking

I only caught the Fiesta Bowl from the last two minutes in regulation til the end of the game. Wow! The hook-and-lateral play reminded me of my beloved Miami Dolphins (you know, back when we had a coach...Don Shula) when they were playing San Diego in the 1981 Divisional Playoffs ("The Epic in Miami"). The Statue of Liberty play for the two-point conversion was an absolute thing of beauty.

Just goes to show - you can plan for most things (OU probably prepared for two-point conversions all season), but you have to be able to adapt to the unknown.

Could Boise State beat Ohio State? Maybe it's the afterglow talking; but, I think if Boise State played OSU like they played OU, I believe they could win.

BTW, Penn State won yesterday. Life is good.

Another Lion fan-WOHOOO!

I give the Boise State kids credit for playing their hearts out and showing why college football is FUN to watch and FUN to play! Something the "professional" league seems to have abandoned since the late 70's. I also admire the Boise State coach for having the stones to call that play!

I missed the game, but I heard they ran the Statue of Liberty AND the Hook-and-Ladder in the same game. Gotta love that!

That was a fun game to watch. OU ties the game with a little under 3 mins to play, then they pick off BSU and take it to the house. BSU is facing 4th and 18 when they pull out the hook and ladder play for 6 pts to tie it in regulation.

Then OU goes up by 7 in OT, and when BSU scores they go for two and of course they call the basic "Fake Right WR Screen - Statue of Liberty Left" play.

That was awesome to watch.

In fact most of the bowl games that I watched came down to either the final play or the final possession. It is a really good bowl season so far, that is for sure. Now I have to see if ND can stop LSU from handing them thier 9th bowl game loss in a row tomorrow - and honestly it does not look very promising with our DB's vs. Jamarcus Russell

Goggles,

Glad to see there are at least two of us Nittany Lion fans here.

Tennessee had me worried for a little while. Felt much better when the defense finally kicked it in gear.

Wasn't it strange seeing JoePa up in the booth instead of on the sideline? Just wasn't right.

Talking Tie-in to the Fiesta Bowl

Just to show I'm not going WAY off thread here (and to get to relive the glory days of PSU one more time), here's an article on ESPN chronicling the first time that the Fiesta Bowl was for the National Championship (Jan 1987).

The two teams involved: Miami & Penn State

The winner: Well, PSU of course!

The article's a little long; but, man, talk about a David and Goliath story. PSU comes in as the number 2 team (vs. Miami's #1 ranking), gets outgained 445-162, and still wins 14-10. Goliath should have ran when David started picking up the stones.

This is why I love college football.
