a date which will live in infamy...

"...December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." - President Franklin D. Roosevelt

Lest we forget...

Rest in peace, brothers.

I have my USS Arizona flag on display.

In retrospect, I thought it fitting to post the following:

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy Word,
Who walked on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our family shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect us wheresoever we go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

-The Navy Hymn

Respectfully,
Aric

Allow me to share some pictures.

This summer, I had a contract to teach Arabic to some Marines of the 13th MEU. I was aboard the USS Cleveland. We left San Diego and reached Honolulu one week later for a port call. These are shots of the Arizona Memorial.

Arizonamatrix (Last picture): This is a stiched picture (actually 4) of the giant plaque that has all the names of the drowned sailors.

I like to call this picture: "Changing Paradigms": this is a Japanese warship that was docked there during the weekend. Their sailors are saluting towards the memorial when they were leaving Pearl Harbor.

I still have a few men that were present during the attack at Pearl Harbor as patients, and I feel honored to consider some as friends--even with the our generation gap.
