Question BETA C-Mags

Some hate them, some like them. What do you guys think of them?

Do you have a weapon or a scenario which cannot be resolved by 30 rounds?

Black Steel Mags

Speaking of mags ...

We just got the new H&K steel 5.56 mm 30 round mags (M4 SOPMOD). They are a bit longer than the regular ones, and a bit heavier. However, the steel follower stays level when pushed and is much smoother. Also, there seems to be space built-in between the follower and the walls of the mag, so it works pretty well when there's dirt in there (regular use induced dirt). Some specialized vest don't accept them, but they work well with our kit.

Mags fail. Drums are worse.

They are unreliable.

And what TR said.

If you need that much fire power get a M-249 or a M240.

Why try and make an assault rifle a MG? There is a reason why MG's have quick change barrels and assualt rifles don't.

Sounds like they work well in Ft Bragg, but what about in your AO? Send me a couple and I will test them out and give you a report PS tell your Team I say Hello!

As to Joe's comment about AR's vs LMG's is a good point, but some of us dont have SAW's due to the request having been sitting on someones desk at DoS for 3 years, so we have to stick a Beta in an M4, click our heels together 3 times and hope that when TSHTF the M4 magicly turns into a M249.

Beta Mag full of Tracers is a great way to mark targets for gunships when that is the most HSLD gear you have, for sure better ways and resourses if your on an ODA. One Beta will get you killed, gotta have at least 2, download and clean them on a regular basis, and replace parts after so many loadings ect. IE have a log book which is a hellofalotof paperwork for an ammunition feeding device. Its one of many tools in the gunners toolbag.
