Super Delegates

In a search I see that Super Delegates have been mentioned in the context of other subjects but not as a subject in itself.
It seems to me there has been something different about current national elections than what I remembered seeing as a boy. I remember seeing adults getting way into the process of each parties run up to the nomination, hats, banners, lots of effort. Indeed that turns out to be the case, changes began in the nomination process back in 1968 and continued into the early 70's to create the system we now employ.
Here is a good explanation of the changes made. So when we complain about ignorant voters, why we face the candidates we do today or how 0 gamed the system there are some answers. I would be interested in learning more and knowing others opinions on the subject.

D's and R's both have "super delegates" but they don't have that many on the R side.

The D's have tons of super delegates and it shows in how they, by the vast majority, are falling into HRC's camp.

if Sanders was getting 49% of the vote and HRC 51% she would still be beating him like a drum.

That's one of the main reasons why I hate delegates and the entire electoral college system. Brokered presidencies...

Last time it happened was back in 1952. It's a necessary evil when you have several candidates that don't drop out and none of them he the delegates to clinch.

Yes sir and I still don't care for either one. I would prefer my vote to be my vote. It's that simple to me. I don't like depending on anyone to case "my vote" for me.

Again, my litmus test for any "we need to change the Constitution" comment is: "Would the Constitution have been ratified if what you are suggesting was included?" The answer about the EC is no. Virginia would have dominated all early presidential elections. Today CA, NY,and IL probably would. Would you be happy with that? Also, we are a Republic...the states, through its citizens, were supposed to have the ultimate voice, not the people as a whole. That voice was muted when the 17th Amendment was passed.

The "party" system is not part of the Constitution. Each party gets to set up its own rules.
