I hope he lives up to what I'd expect a senior enlisted infantryman to be like and not just another bureaucrat politician type at the top of the chain. We can't afford another yes man more concerned with his career, politics, and garrison chicken s@!t. All in all, he doesn't come off as that from what I've gathered in the link but only time will tell.

I had a WW2 vet as a barracks NCO roommate. In that day they use to talk about the 'brown boot' Army and if you never wore brown boots you were a newbie lol.
It is all relative and no disrespect meant either....always been that way.

This is much like shining boots to us now. The only people that have any stake in doing it are those in airborne units, and that even is becoming a thing where there are few that have actually exited an aircraft. There are quite a few that wear the boots, shine them and aren't in a jumping slot.
Same as pressing uniforms, blanket parties and other things. 
Can't fault the new SMA, hasn't started yet. It's not a job for anyone that hates criticism, but the current one seemingly did not have the proper connection to the current generation of troops. This man may resonate more since he's got the credentials and time down range during the most current conflicts.....and not just one trip.
Hope the changes he has in mind if any are positive, proactive and protective and that he lasts if he speaks out.

I was thinking the same thing, what, if there is such a thing is the norm for making E-9? He may be everything that you wish him to be but in today's PC climate unable to truly be himself.
