New York Times Finally Admits “Assault Weapons Are A Myth”

Tell us something we DON'T know.

After Lying For 30 Years, New York Times Finally Admits “Assault Weapons Are A Myth”

In an amazing editorial the NY Times admits that “assault weapon” is a made up term created by anti-gun Democrats to scare low information voters. Stunningly they also admit there’s no proof the “assault weapons” ban had any impact on crime.

One on hand: good.

On the other hand: an initial sign that the left will start working towards handgun bans instead?

So "assault weapon" was just a made up word by the Germans to describe the StG-44 (principles upon which the AK-47 and the many variants of such modern Infantry weapons as the G-3, M-16, M-4, etc were based) and, therefore, is all just some form of liberal conspiracy perpetuated by the media to scare il Rushbo's 'low info voters'?

Hunh.

Il Rushbo's 'lo info voters are still way smarter then many, many Democrat voters.

Most folks on the right have been saying since all this crap started that AR-15's were not assault weapons because they were only semi automatic.

Just took the press about 20 years to catch up with conservatives - on one issue.

FWIW, it is my understanding that most nations do not use the term “assault weapon” to classify civilian weaponry.

Most knowledgeable folks consider fully automatic military rifles to be true "assault weapons."

It is when the media tries to tell the uninformed that a semi-automatic rifle is an "Assault Weapon".

All of the weapons you named are capable of full-automatic fire, and meet the generic definition of actual "assault rifles," although the G3 (firing a full-powered rifle cartridge rather than an intermediate round) is more properly termed a "battle rifle."

The weapons legally available to citizens are not capable of fully automatic fire (thus are not "assault rifles"), and no new ones have been made available to the public since 1986.

Functionally, there is very little difference between a semi-auto hunting rifle and a military appearing sporting rifle.

And I suspect that more of Rush's listeners can tell the difference than New York Times readers, FWIW.

"Saturday Night Special"

For you youngsters here who can barely remember the details of the assault weapons ban in the early 1990s you have to step in the way back machine to see the "Evil Gun" before that - it was the "Saturday Night Special".

The "Saturday Night Special", as the proponents said, was a cheap, poorly made pistol that was as likely to fall apart in your hand as save your life.

They said that type of gun needed to be banned to protect people.

Of course the description covered everything from junk pistols all the way up to target pistols and other high end firearms.

Their goal is to ban one type at the time, comrade!

There is a large portion of our population whose only concept of an "assault weapon" is the "pictures" of them they are shown through the MSM. Anything besides a musket or bolt-action...and they are screaming it's an assault weapon.

Sadly enough, I have spoken with people who should know better and they can't even explain what their view of an assault weapon is without giving a visual description of it rather than what it means.

Saturday Night Special

My grandmother gave me this 35 years ago, her second husband purchased it in the early 60's from a Western Auto Store paid less than $15.00 for it. Double action .22 short, 3" barrel, warped faux stag grips. It was stamped made in Germany and she asked me if it was a Luger? I wish.

I have been holding on to it in hopes that the local gun grabbers would have a buy back and that I could get some cash out of them for it.

Worth anywhere from ~$300.00 down, and you would rather turn it over to the gun grabbers?

Well if it's worth that kind of money I will not be parting with it anytime soon, it resembles a really cheap version of a starters pistol. I will do my homework on it, thanks for the heads up.

Just don't put a scope on that boltgun... Anything with optics becomes a "deadly sniper rifle."
