One must really get to know one's neighbors!
Just before dinner I was walking the dog and heard what sounded like a Huey, but with less of a "whoop". I didn't see it, but it landed about a mile east of us at a neighbor's house. I went up on the roof to see if it was a medevac, but their property is behind a small rise that blocked my view. It was on the ground, running, for about 10 minutes. When he pulled pitch, I saw the dust rise. And out of the dust flew an AH-1 Cobra! Clearly, this is a neighbor I need to meet!

Any wild fires in your area?
I know that there are several AH-1s that have been converted into fire fighting platforms.
They don't have a huge water payload, but with their maneuverability, they can get into some really tight places and do pin point water drops.
He could have set down to fill up either at a hydrant or tanker. Ten minutes would all it take to fill up.
Or, one of the guys could have forgot their lunch, or REALLY needed to take a sh*t and set it down at someplace that looked clean.
You REALLY need to meet your neighbor .....

Nope, no fires. I do remember that there is a restaurant owner in Newport Beach, CA (or near there in the South Bay) that owns an AH-1 that is often used in movies. The aircraft is based in Lake Havasu. BUT, his pilot is from Sierra Vista. His Cobra and the one I saw are both painted black. (Or, at least was, the last time I saw the LH one.) Oddly, the owners of the property that he landed on just built a pretty nice church on their property and they have a shooting range that seems larger than ours. It's an interesting neighborhood.

Sierra Vista and that weird hippy town next to you (bigsby?) look like the Zombie Apocalypse already happened. I have wandered around there a lot when I have been at schools at Fort Huachuca. Even ran into a group of illegals on top of mt car.
The Cobra does not surprise me one bit!

Well, SV is not as bad as you describe, but it really doesn't have the character of Bisbee and Tombstone. It does if you go on the fort to the Old Fort, though. The town was slow to grow around it.

Let me know the next time you are in town. I'm not. I'm pretty much equidistant from SV, Tombstone, and Bisbee. I identify more with Tombstone.
The pic below is the Lake Havasu Cobra tricked out for Austin Powers: Goldmember.

No hook up points that I know of...back in the day a few 'guys' got in some deep kimchee because they talked a Cobra crew to allow them to hang externally for a MFF (HALO FUN JUMP) on Bragg and 'took pictures'......just another great logbook opportunity....

When I was at Fort Huachuca, there was a family owned and operated steak house in Sierra Vista...I can't remember the name of it, but I heard it was closed down, now. It's driving me crazy b/c the name of that place is on the tip of my tongue - anyone know what it was called? It was literally the only place worth eating at, other than Famous Sam's (and that's not saying much).

Nope! But you jogged my memory! It is Daisy Mae's! To be sure, I called one of my buddies that was stationed there for a brief stint while he was doing some MI training. He said they were briefly shut down due to an owner retiring or something like that. I think they may be open, now, and that's a hell of a good thing. If you ever get a chance try their ribeye.
Quote:
Through the years, Daisy Mae's has become a favorite restaurant of many MLB players and their families. From athletes to actors to politicians, you never know who you will run into at Daisy Mae's. In 1993, Daisy Mae's opened a second restaurant in (one) of the oldest building in the Southwest in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
The Sierra Vista location started out as a trading post in the very early 1870's. Daisy Mae's has won several awards since the original Daisy Mae's was established in Tucson in September of 1990. For two consecutive years it was selected one of the top 25 steakhouses in America by the American Academy of Restaurants and Steakhouse of the Year by the "Consumer Business Review" in March 1998.

So do I.
It was not, as it turned out, career enhancing.
