House to Form Select Committee on Benghazi

I am surprised this has not already been posted on this forum.

House Speaker John Boehner announced on Friday he will call a vote to form a House select committee to investigate the 2012 Benghazi attacks, accusing the Obama White House of "misleading the American people" by withholding emails on Benghazi - emails that only just surfaced this week despite a 2013 subpoena.

"This dismissiveness and evasion requires us to elevate the investigation to a new level. I intend for this select committee to have robust authority, and I will expect it to work quickly to get answers for the American people and the families of the victims,” Boehner (R-Ohio) said Friday in a statement.

The House still needs to vote to approve the committee but it's a foregone conclusion the Republican majority will pass the measure. Senate Republicans urged Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) to work with Boehner on a joint Senate, House committee to investigate the 2012 attack but Reid was dismissive.

"While Republicans try to gin up yet another political food fight, Senate Democrats will remain focused on fostering economic growth for all hard-working Americans,” he said.

For all the criticism Boehner has received for not doing this earlier, I tend to agree with him. Wait until all the ducks are in a row, then strike. This is too important and could rise to the level of impeachable evidence. Timing is everything here. Think about it, Repubs take both houses in '14. Articles of Impeachment brought by the House and tried in the Republican Senate. Hmmmmm

And it's a two-fer - marginalizes HCs ambitions for 2016 as well. The splintering of the Dems (Clinton Camp v Obama Camp) could get real ugly and unravel the unholy alliance.

I agree, it does seem like he knew the evidence was out there and waited until he had what he really needed.
Evidently he's put Goudy in charge of this, from what I've seen of him I don't think it means this is basically the 'going through the motions' dog & pony show. Goudy seems like the type who isn't scared of the media and/or the political lies of the left, he will get to the truth and do what needs to be done.
This is also politically safe in that the left can't hide behind the tyranny of good intentions, no way can they claim "we were just trying to help people, the republicans are just": insert preferred insult here > (hateful, selfish, bigoted, racist, mean-spirited, etc).
There was none of the tyranny of thier supposed 'good intentions' here, only proof of an outright lie and a deliberate effort at doing so. There's no ground for the left to throw the usual political lies around and scare the republicans into silence.
Keep this on the front burner until the fall and it's on the news just in time for the mid-term elections. And it does have some real implications for the hildabeasts political ambitions. IF the repubs really take this as far as it should go, I suspect at some point the left might throw the hildabeast under the bus to save thier own butts.
I did notice the angle the media is already taking, "you lied to us!" In other words, they're already trying to cover thier own butts and pointed the finger at the administration "it's thier fault, they lied to us!" . Makes me wonder if the media already knows they can't cover this up and the storm is coming.

Direct points of questioning.....where was the President during the embassy fight.
Who/why was the decision made to not attempt a military intervention.
Who directed the talking points after the truth was known about Ansar Al Sharia that mislead the citizenry.
No political grandstanding or speechifying.

I agree, I like the guy from observing his comments and line of questioning. Sound Constitutionalist and being a former Prosecutor doesn't hurt.

Agree with nature and substance of questions posed in this thread so far - would also like to hear direct testimony from those on the ground and in the air during the event.

Also, what have Pannetta, Petreus and Ham got to say under oath?

You'll hear that I suspect...great thing about this committee is they can call from any element of the Gov and have folks from DofS sitting next to the military when the questions are asked.

That's true in the normal course of business. But, once a select committee is formed it's a different ball game all together. A select committee can't be ignored and it won't go away.

Given what we know and what we think we know at this point, I just don't see any path that won't lead through the valley of high crimes and misdemeanors.
