The PTSD Epidemic

The PTSD Epidemic: Many Suffering, Few Solutions

U.S. government issues a fresh accounting revealing that neither the Pentagon nor the Department of Veterans Affairs has any idea if the billions they’re spending on PTSD treatments are doing any good.

A congressionally mandated Institute of Medicine panel reported Friday that neither agency assesses the success of their PTSD care. “Without tracking outcomes, neither DOD nor VA knows whether it is providing effective or adequate PTSD care, for which they spent $294 million and more than $3 billion, respectively, in 2012,” the 300-page study concludes.

And so it goes...

Excellent, sir Richard.

The fact that the conditions of vets with PTSD are not being closely tracked is (another) failure in our care of our veterans. Treatment can be successful, but sometimes it persists for years, or can be a permanent disability. It is a phenomenon which is also not isolated to military combat experience.

More are coming, but not just from our heroic vets. Plan on it from a wide array of our country. There's a stigma associated with PTSD as a mental health issue, but I v/r submit it is a cultural issue not restricted to our military. This from Army Times. Thanks.

WOW...just read an unbelievable article. Seems the rich and famous are now claiming that their wrong-doings are the result of PTSD caused by their sudden fame and attention.

Crap, it's like the rampant diagnosis a few years ago that every kid in kindergarten had ADHD! No one has any responsibility for anything anymore!

The PTSD Epidemic probably about 50% fraud too

Many of the frauds we've been involved here on Professionalsoldiers.com are receiving payments for false stories. Kind of make you wonder how many out there are receiving money for their lies..........

Truth is, if you've been in a combat zone, for 10 seconds you are eligible for PTSD pay.

Doesn't matter if you've never seen combat. Doesn't matter if you were in an area that was 100% safe, if you put in for PTSD pay you'll receive it.

The stats on PTSD are about as valid as the military's sexual abuse stats....reports do not need to be validated...just check the block..."Yes, I have PTSD"....now, how much money do I get......

One of the guys I went to ANCOC with was a Warrior Transistion Unit Platoon Sergeant. He told us that he had a Soldier in his platoon that had never deployed, but claimed and was being treated for PTSD due to the war stories she heard from the Soldiers in her unit that did deploy.
