Home Invasion in Millburn, NJ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvvHMM6TF50

Graphic and disturbing video of a woman being attacked in her home in Millburn, NJ. Video captured from her home nanny-cam about 10:30am Friday morning. Suspect kicked down a locked door. She was not armed and was home with 2 young children, one of whom watched the attack.

She said she decided not to fight and take whatever the man handed out. She thought if she fought, and the child started screaming, the man might turn on the child too. She doesn't appear to provoke him or say anything, but he beat her viciously anyway.

There is no way the police would have been there in time. Her beating/kicking/choking happens in 3 minutes. He eventually took jewelry and fled. He is still on the loose.

A gun, a vicious dog or maybe pepper spray.....what could have been her plan? She felt safe. Now, not so much. I'm glad I have a gun. This reminds me to always be prepared, even in broad daylight.

Sorry for her pain, glad she will be ok physically and that her children are safe.

Its weird that people will spend money for material things but not to harden their homes. I can't tell you how many times I responded to home invasions/burglaries and see how the suspects break in and the home owners wonder how it happens.

She's lucky she didn't get sexually assaulted.

Hopefully this guy will find a chalk outline with his name on it soon.

Just remember a gun is only as good as the one that is readily available - even in your own house. How many seconds do you need, how many seconds do you have?

My neighbors mock me sometimes for having Fort Knox on the block. I'm okay with that...I just tell them whoever comes to my door will look at theirs as a better place to knock.

Battered but alive; thankfully, she will recover and hopefully adopt a heightened security awareness from now on. Thanks for posting this; I'll be sharing it with all the women in my address book. This is an excellent example of why professionals preach appropriate security posture and defense in depth.

Wouldn't have made it far in my house no matter what room I'm. Heck I even pack when I'm cutting grass.

That is the problem with the gun in a safe or a complicated lock or lock box.

You can't get to it till the situation is over.

That piece of shite needs to kick in a door one more time and meet Mr. Shotgun.

Of course, in NJ, she would probably be charged for defending herself and her children.

Not a good statistic; even including those four cities the US homicide rate is actually relatively low all things considered.

When I go out to pick up the morning paper, I have a Challenge Coin and a Pocket Pistol on me. The first CHL Course I took, the Instructor was VERY adamant that even a .32,.380 or even .22 was better than NOTHING and if "Saddling-Up" was a hassle and you didn't carry for the "quick trip to the store" then you were vulnerable/compromised!! Most encounters are @ extremely close range and most perps have never been SHOT!!! Put a couple of caps in them and get the hell away!! They will not be wanting any more of what you're dishing out!!!

If you're expecting trouble or are out tracking it down, different story.....SADLE-UP and go in HEAVY!!

Later

Very true, sir.

I have a question for the QP's on the forum, what advise would you give for self-defense for:

1)An international student on a student's visa who is living off campus. To the best of my knowledge aliens on a students visa are not allowed to procure firearms(if I am wrong please do correct me).

2)A newly arrived H1-B worker who will have to wait a few months to go through all the protocol before he/she gets an hunting license to be eligible to buy a firearm.
