Raleigh, N.C. — On a party-line vote, the House Rules Committee on Tuesday approved a resolution opposing any push for more gun control at the federal level.

House Resolution 63, sponsored by freshman Rep. Michael Speciale, R-Craven, says (as amended) "The House of Representatives expresses support of the constitutional right of the people of this State to keep and bear arms and opposes any infringement by the federal government of the right of the people of this State to keep and bear arms."

"We right now have an out-of-control federal government," Speciale told the committee. "We here in the North Carolina General Assembly are the last bastion of hope between citizens and an ever-encroaching federal government."

I'm glad to see someone in this state has a pair. Now let's hear from the county sheriffs.

Colorado Sheriffs are against the new bills going through the Seanat. Doesn't seem to make much difference.
Recall petitions and the ballot box will probably have to be the next rounds in our magazines for the fight.

NC looking to take a stand??

Looks like there are a few guys in Raleigh looking to take a stand against Washington, let's see what the rest decide to do.......

HOUSE BILL 246, The Gun Rights Amendment, would allow citizens of North Carolina to vote on an amendment to the NC Constitution that would ensure the right of a citizen who holds a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon except in the following:
1. a courthouse,
2. a federal building,
3. on private property which is posted to forbid weapons,
4. on school property for persons not authorized,
5. in law enforcement or correction facilities,
6. while consuming alcohol or a controlled substance unless the controlled substance is for therapeutic purposes, and
7. while under a domestic violence order.
The constitutional amendment would further provide that the state shall never engage in a general confiscation of weapons and shall never cooperate with any effort to do so. Introduced by Representatives Pittman, Ford, Hardister and Speciale, and referred to the House Committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House.

Just consolidate 1-5 with:

1. On any property which is posted to forbid weapons, unless otherwise authorized.

Add:

2. Posted property is responsible and liable for all security there.

Expand 7. to:

7. While under probation or any restraining order such as domestic, stalking, harassment.

I have no problem with that, but, at least it's a start...
