I like the bit

I like the bit about some riding the benefit - after all it's free money - hey, take a vacation for 90 weeks - and thereby inflating the vet unemployment rate.

Anybody want to guess if they didn't have the program some would find work pretty quick?

Back in the 80's during Reagans presidency I got a call from a very irate friend of mine who was getting out of the Army at the same time as his wife. He was upset at that time because President Reagan had announced that leaving the military would be treated the same as quitting your civilian job and that you would no longer be able to draw unemployment my friend and his wife were getting ready to milk it for all it was worth.

Obviously at some point it was decided to make individuals getting out eligle for benefits again. Does anyone else recall this policy in the 80's? Like any other government benefit its sorely abused. It's one thing to get caught up in a reduction in force but to leave voluntarily is quite another especially considering the lack of employment opportunities that exist in the outside world at this time.

"Why are we spending so much on (the program) at a time when we can't afford to build a new fighter jet?"

I would rather this then a new fighter Jet.

Under the current 20 Years or nothing, if you leave early you don't have a 401k to move. In that case 14 years will seem like a very long time, except for the memories, and friends, injuries etc, etc.
Don't forget, a day or a week in Army terms is a lot longer and harder than a sheeple 9-5/40 Union job.
Besides, winners never quit and quitters never win.
