Special Forces Contract

Hi,
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place, my first post . Anyway, I have been looking into joining the Army with the goal of Special Forces. I have been informed through my research that Special Forces are currently accepting contracts with civilian recruits to try out once in the service. I am wondering what happens if I try out for the special forces in this way, but am not selected. Do I just go to the E-1, and start from the ground level, or do I enter at another rank because of the training I have received, or could I choose not to stay in the military at all if I do not achieve my goals. Also, I know that if you enter the service with a bachelor's degree, you will enter at a higher rank, but I am wondering if anyone knows if an AS degree enable you to enter at a higher rank. I will have completed my AS degree as of this fall, and am considering enlisting after graduation. Thanks!
