More federal agents

Last week there was a story about IRS agents getting shotguns

http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/...ad.php?t=27464

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA trains law enforcement officers from about 86 partnering federal agencies.

Here are GS-1811s in the Department of Labor. One could ponder why the law enforcement raid could not have been conducted by perhaps the Bureau?

Federal agents raid career academy

By Gary Taylor and Amy L. Edwards, Orlando Sentinel

4:47 p.m. EST, February 10, 2010

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS — Federal agents have raided the Galiano Career Academy in Seminole County.

It's unclear why the agents are at the school. A business card one of the agents gave a student indicated the agent handles racketeering and fraud investigations with the Department of Labor.

Agents were still in the building, located in the Circuit City Plaza on State Road 436, after lunchtime Wednesday.

A U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman wouldn't comment on the search and the documents related to the case are sealed.

The school had just opened Wednesday morning when agents arrived, students told the Orlando Sentinel.

"They have a truckload of evidence," said student Erica Webb of Sanford. "I'm talking about a U-Haul truck."

Webb, who is studying to be a medical assistant, said she saw agents take records and computers.

Other students said they watched through the windows as agents were opening the computers. But when the agents saw them, they closed the blinds.

Webb said she's had a lot of problems with the school — they lost the folder with her Social Security number twice.

Students told the Sentinel they spoke to agents. The students were asked if they got credited for attending classes, and also inquired about their financial aid.

Several students told the Sentinel they think the federal inquiry deals with financial aid.

One student was given a business card from an agent with the Department of Labor, Office of the Inspector General. The card indicates the agent handles racketeering and fraud investigations.

Student Allison Clark of Altamonte Springs said the school has been audited several times. She said students have arrived to find notes on the doors saying there are no classes because of ongoing audits.

None of the students could estimate exactly how many agents arrived at the career academy, but one student said it was "a lot." The door is locked and agents remained inside as of about 2 p.m.

According to the Galiano Career Academy Web site, the private school specializes in training for careers as: medical assistant, medical administrative assistant, medical billing and coding, administrative assistant, pharmacy technician and travel counselor.

The telephone line at the school was busy this afternoon. A school official has not responded to an e-mail from the Sentinel.

Everyone wants a gun, a badge, some credentials and a raised-letter business card. IRS audits will soon be conducted in the same fashion. No more letters to come down to the local office. IRS "Enforcement" will kick your door in kitted up and take your laptop with Turbo-Tax loaded on it.

Seems to me there should have at least been some sort of prescripted information for the students of the school (Big surprise there guys, the students want to know what is going on). If it is a Career Academy it sounds like they are people trying to get ahead.

An 1811 is an IG, but I am unsure why they would need guns.

IGs were not involved in criminal investigations last I heard. Maybe something has changed.

Not sure exactly where they fit into this but OIG agents are law enforcement types. Still, it will be interesting to see whay the FBI was involved, or perhaps it was a task force. One business card does not many questions. Seems everything ends up in a task force anymore.

One of these "armed" federal "agencies" is going to make a huge mistake soon I'm sure.

If I saw six guys carrying 14 inch shotguns headed my way, not wearing "POLICE" uniforms the shit would be on. These idiots are not "trained" LEO's, they are nothing more than "armed accountants". kinda like lawyers with guns,(FBI).

If I remember correctly the last 5 out of six FBI Agent involved shootings, 5 of the FBI "Special Agents" shot each other.

Now the federal government is arming "accountants", brillant!

A note for you "civilians" there is nothing "defensive" about a 14 inch shotgun. In fact IMO the only thing more "offensive" than a 14 inch shotgun is a hand grenade.

Thanks for that perspective, TS. Sobering indeed.

Have a friend that works for the IRS in the Dallas area - an accountant type doing corporate fraud investigations. He is not in the least bit alarmed that his IRS brothers are loading up on assault weapons. They must have done a great job internally at the IRS selling the employees on the need for this.

A short barreled shotgun is NOT an assault weapon.

I don't know boss, what else would you call a non-discriminating 14 inch, class three, shotgun?

A short barreled shotgun, protected by the 2nd Amendment, since the Feds have them.

On the subject of OIG's, Law Enforcement activities:

Quote:
Strategic defaulters, beware. The feds are coming for you. And they are not happy.
But the Feds were happy to bail out the Banks who's criminal schemes made all this possible...

Quote:
The OIG may not have the same fearsome "G-man" reputation as its better-known counterparts at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but it is every bit as much a law enforcement agency, with the same powers to search, seize and arrest. Special OIG agents are even authorized to carry firearms.
Quote:
And because Fannie and Freddie are on the hook for the $187 billion in taxpayer money that the Treasury has invested so far to keep them afloat — by some estimates, the tab eventually could reach more than $360 billion — the OIG is on the prowl for people who owe it money.
We shall see if the FHFA OIG, let along any OIG goes knocking on the doors of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Angelo R. Mozilo, Jamie Dimon, Loyd Blankfein or John Corzine?

Probably not.....but we can give them immunities
