Did he consider "We" instead of "I"?
Personally, I'd go with "We" to represent not just me, but my wife(not sure if he's married), my key staff who do the hard yards(even though it's MY butt on the financial line), or if there are any family members or minority shareholders maybe. The ultra local and highly specific "we", not the national/socialist "we".
Too much focus on the "I" by detractors could see it associated with the recent overuse of 1%, and the last thing the small business community needs is to be lumped in and targeted like a left wing Spanish Inquisition that believes business owners are somehow thieves stealing from a fixed pie, rather than building a bigger one.
Did he consider changing tack a bit on the word President Obama used from "built" to "created" as well as "business" to "wealth and jobs"?
By using the words "wealth and jobs" it could be a good entry to being the party responsible for broadening and deepening the tax base...which puts the business community with the wealth and jobs it creates in the drivers seat doesn't it?
"We are creators."
"My team and I create jobs, we create wealth, we create taxable revenue."
Or something far better in that general direction.
I like what he's doing, but if I had the opportunity to speak with him I would only ask him about his decision making process as he was going through different banner draft ads.
I hope the small business community that is upset and disappointed at the President's recent remarks is able to put together a concerted effort to effectively educate the public around this issue, maybe just in a slightly more nuanced way.
