Another shooting...
This time outside of the Empire State Building Link The story is still developing. What the hell is in the water lately? Prayers out to the families and victims. If this crap keeps up I wouldn't doubt that a serious firearm crackdown (Katrina style) all over the U.S. will take place.

Prayers for the victims; I wish once one of these whacko's would perform the "off myself" test with their firearm first, just to make sure it's working...
FYI, ALOT of states passed laws right after Katrina to prohibit just such conduct. Ours happens to include private sale/transfer & commerce protection as well. Not that a prohibitive sign/statute prevents criminal/treasonous conduct but a fed trying to do something like that would need a big lunch. The "serious firearm crackdown" has been happening for decades, enabled by both political parties.

Based on 2010 statistics, there's an average of something like 1.4 homicides per day in NYC. Two dead, including the shooter, seems to fall into that average.
Given a slow news cycle and the relative proximity in time to two other shooting events, this seems more like the media attempting to extend a 'narrative' than genuine news. We'll see if it gains much traction. Certainly cries for stronger gun laws can't stick, since it's hard to imagine any place that could *have* stronger gun laws than NYC.

My thoughts are that since all this attention lately, and the frequency of events all over the country, it will garner more gun control support from the population. There are several million guns circulating throughout the country and abolition or seizure is as foolish as wiping before you poop, but voting Americans that were on the fence about guns might lean more toward the side of gun control as opposed to gun rights. I realize it's far off, but if this keeps up we're going to see some new questions pop up on those screens every four years or so.

Just heard that the shooter only shot one person (his x boss who recently fired him) and the rest may have been shot by police caught in the crossfire.

Chicago
There were 19 shootings in the past 48 hours in Chicago. Funny how that hasn't made the MSM.

That statement prompted me to check up on my area. I found a pretty cool search page for such things. Here's the link: SpotCrime. You have to register, but it seems worth it. When looking at Baltimore, I can understand why the MSM doesn't cover their shootings... not enough reporters

On this side of the planet, we were always told that Chicago was the birthplace of the skyscraper. Probably another piece of misinformation. Sorry.

You are correct, Guy, first sky scrapers in Chicago. The point being, of course, that D.C., N.Y. and Chicago have the most strct gun control laws in the USA. And as QP longrange1947 points out, it's the LAW.

Thats a relief
Thanks Sarski, it seems that many of these atrocities in the US are taking place in Gun-Free areas. This makes Gun Free Zones very dangerous. Are lawmakers aware of this? Certainly it is doubtful that law abiding citizens carrying guns will be able to stop all unlawful shootings, but they are likely able to curtail the multiple ones.
