Chris Christie?

I had dinner with some friends from NY/NJ who are raving about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. From articles, interviews, and youtube clips of him taking on the unions, he comes across as a "Jersey Guy" , very eloquent, but a confrontational in your face, straight shooter. IMHO, a very interesting Republican prospect.

Any thoughts or opinions on Christie?

I like what I have seen of him, especially his take it or leave it attitude with the press. He seems well informed on many issues and doesn't hide or downplay his opinions. I would like to see him in a few debates with Romney and Obama.

Last week (sadly) Christie stated he aboslutely will not run for Preisdent in 2011. He is doing a great job trying to rehab NJ after years of fiscal insanity, corruption and abuse of public office.

I live in Jersey, have met him a few times, the first time was at a tea party event in Morristown prior to the election. I like him, like you guys have said, a straight shooter. I have friends who are teachers, police officers, and state employees who HATE him. New Jersey is a mess, if he can fix it, even alittle, I like him. Not sure if he can make it work for the rest of the country though.

Ergo, he is not loved by the teacher's unions, and the like..

One of the last things I did for the state of NJ before heading for the doors was to vote for Christie. Ultimately he'll be a one term governor because the people of NJ don't really want their problems fixed. The Democrats overwhelmingly control the State Legislature and they have shown no desire to fundamentally transform the way business in done in that state. His real legacy will be his Supreme Court nominations which will have a last impact long after his time as governor has come to an end. I don't know if he would make a good Presidential candidate but I do know he would abuse the President like a red headed step child in a debate.

My only exposure to him was watching a chunk of the recent Piers Morgan interview. Liked him a ton based on that.

Well, the top hits on Christie seem to be: The 2nd Amendment, didn't join the 26 states that challenged Obamacare, and he was the only governing Republican to attended the dinner honoring Hu Tsingtao (oops, that's beer) Jintao. Then again, he may be attracted to free food regardless of the honoree.
