Free calls home from gmail

Read this in a couple of tech articles...looks like it may continue after 2011.

We understand that it’s not always easy or affordable for our troops serving overseas to call friends and family at home, so starting today we’re making it completely free for all uniformed military personnel with valid United States Military (.mil) email addresses to call the United States, right from Gmail.

I've been doing this for a while from my gmail account. It has always been free to place a call to any US number. Good on them for opening it up to people with .mil addresses.

Thanks for posting!

Just shot the link to daughter, who happens to have gmail now after her hotmail got hosed.

Sad part is, based on non-Zero-induced austerity, one of our base's phone trunks got the ax awhile back. Where she could previously call into the board DSN, then get off-netted to our house, now she can't. Going to one town out the gate is OK, making the left turn to ours is not.

She doesn't take the seemingly normal complement of 5 PEDs/Soldier but am sure she's got her laptop.
Thanks again.
