Two American Servicemembers Killed in Frankfurt Shooting

Two Servicemembers Also Injured in Shooting at Frankfurt Airport
By LUIS MARTINEZ
March 2, 2011
A gunman opened fire inside a bus carrying U.S. servicemembers at the airport in Frankfurt, Germany, today, killing two members of the U.S. Air Force, a U.S. official said.

One of the dead was the bus driver. Two other American servicemembers were reportedly seriously injured in the incident.

The servicemembers were not based in Germany but were transiting through, another U.S. official told ABC News, and it appears the gunman was on the bus when he shot at them. There is no information yet on whether this was an airport shuttle or one specifically for U.S. military personnel.

German police have arrested a 21-year-old suspect from Kosovo.

The incident remains under investigation and it is unclear if the shooting was related to terrorism....

Considering that Frankfurt is one of the major businesss and transportation centers in Europe I'm kind of suprised we haven't witnessed more terrorist activity there. In addition to the airport, O'Reilly's Irish Pub and the train station downtown would be prime targets. O'Reilly's is where all of the American and British business expatriates hang out.

To the fallen, rest in peace.

The gunman is being described as a "recently radicalized" Islamist.

RIP to the fallen. I knew and trained with the two wounded. We're on the same deployment. One should recover, but the other is still in critical condition. My prayers are with them both.
