My latest project
Just wanted to share with everyone my latest project. I haven't been on the board all that much recently, due to this taking up most of my time.
For the next couple of days (4/28 and 4/29), we at AMR (American Medical Response) Denver, will be deciding if we would like to have NEMSA (National EMS Association) as our Labor Union. They are a labor union devoted entirerly to EMS, such as the IAFF is for Firefighters, and the Police Unions are for LEOs.
I've been spear heading this since late December, early January. With all that had happen with our division over the past year, coming to a head this past December, myself and a few others felt it was time for a change, and we felt that NEMSA could best help us.
I just want to express my thanks to those members here who've answered questions I had, through PM's and on the board, as I went through this process. It's been a tough battle, but I've been able to "stay the course" believe it or not, from reading posts from the members here, especially the QPs. I know I've said this before, but much thanks to Jeff, TR, Martin, and the other QPs who run and operate this site. I know this is an informational site for QPs and future QPs, but the information gleaned from the board helps us "poor slugs" in civvie life as well. I know it has helped me tremendously.
Hopefully, I'll have good news come Thursday night.
Shawn

Good luck, Shawn.
Good unions are hard to find. Unfortunately, I have found that if you want to make it a good one - you have to be verrrry involved. When it is a large group, and you come in late, sometimes that is very hard to do.
I may "spearhead" an effort to replace our "union" next year. I think it might be a nice "retirement" gift from me to our district.
The current union didn't like that I suggested, when I was a "rep" that since a bit over 60% of our dues-paying members had 3 or fewer years in the district, that "seniority" might not be the #1 issue with said membership.
Can you say, "A fart in church..."?
Once again, good luck.

Best of luck, Shawn.
Not a fan of organized labor, I hope that it works out for you.

Me, either, but I've always been in teachers' unions, which are ANYthing but organized.

Well.......the vote count was tonight.
103 No
45 Yes
5 challange votes (that din't fit into the final count)
out of 157 total
We unfortunately didn't vote in NEMSA as our labor union. It was a tough loss, but someone had to loose.
Time for a beer.......or 20.
