Girl Scouts saying this?
http://www.lifenews.com/int1482.html
Guys, ladies,
Check this out, got this off a Military Jeep page, I think it was poorly written and this group is trying to connect it to the US Girls Scouts.
What do you think?

This is misleading and appears to be misreported. The WAGGGS is NOT the same as the Girl Scouts of America.

Yes it appears they are a part of WAGGGS.

What do I think,I think it's disgusting....... What is happening in our country when BS like this is allowed and tolerated? The Girl Scouts don't need this kind of attention........

albeham,
I find the article poorly written, too. The author mentions the following:
- WAGSGG (Girl Scouts) hosted a "no-adults-welcome" panel at the United Nations.
- Planned Parenthood distributed a brochure that included the words "There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!"
- The event was part of the annual United Nations CSW (Commission on the Status of Women).
- At the CSW were the heads of powerful UN agencies, who released a statement promoting an "Adolescent Girls Task Force," particularly those aged 10-14.
So who was there to receive the PP brochure? Was it the heads of UN panels, was it Girl Scouts, or was it children aged 10-14?
I believe it's appropriate to teach this age group HIV prevention, reproductive and sexual health, etc as there are more and more kids in this age group having sex.
But the part of the brochure which "promotes casual sex" and "talking dirty" and "acting out your fantasies"??? Uh, HELLLLOOOOO? For 10 year olds?
I am proud to be an American when I read stuff like that.

Here's the Planned Parenthood brochure entitled "Healthy, Happy and Hot.". I think it's a lot more disturbing than the article indicates - judge for yourself.
What type of message does it send to have a brochure about young HIV+ girls called " Healthy, Happy and Hot."? Is that the result of AIDS?
What type of message does it send to tell an underaged HIV+ girl any of the following:
Quote:
"Sex can feel great and can be really fun! Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse… But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. Sex can include kissing, touching, licking, tickling, sucking, and cuddling. Some people like to have aggressive sex, while others like to have soft and slow sex with their partners. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!!"
|
Quote:
"Some countries have laws that say people living with HIV must tell their sexual partner(s) about their status before having sex, even if they use condoms or only engage in sexual activity with a low risk of giving HIV to someone else. These laws violate the rights of people living with HIV by forcing them to disclose or face the possibility of criminal charges."
|
Quote:
"reproductive rights are necessary for the development and well-being of all people and the societies in which they live for every person living with HIV."
|
Quote:
"There are many reasons that people do not share their HIV status. People in long-term relationships who find out they are living with HIV sometimes fear that their partner will react violently or end the relationship."
"It is not always possible to talk to your partner(s) about or to practise safer sex — for example, maybe you know that your partner will get angry or aggressive, or you don’t have access to condoms or a safe place to have sex."
|
Quote:
"Caress and lick your partner’s skin. Explore your partner’s body with your hands and mouth. Mix things up by using different kinds of touch from very soft to hard. Talk about or act out your fantasies. Talk dirty to them. Tickle, tease and make them feel good."
|
Quote:
"Do you know about the prostate? The prostate is a gland that helps produce sperm; it lies behind the rectum and can be very pleasurable for men when stimulated."
|
Quote:
"Some people have sex when they have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. This is your choice."
|
If I had an under-aged daughter who was given this pamphlet; I'd find a male member of the organization to give more than a talking to. Talk about a betrayal of trust.
Here's the contact info for what you read above.

Here is a link to the UN Conference 1-12 Mar 2010 whose stated purpose was:
In March 2010, the Commission on the Status of Women will undertake a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly. Emphasis will be placed on the sharing of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. Member States, representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities will participate in the session. A series of parallel events will provide additional opportunities for information exchange and networking.
http://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw/beijing15/index.html
Attendees were:
The fifty-fourth session of the Commission on the Status of Women will be attended by representatives of Member States, United Nations entities and of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from all regions of the world.
Here is a list of the NGOs who attended the 2 week conference:
http://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw/bei...nvitedNGOs.pdf
Here is a listing of the many brochures/pamphlets/booklets/etc put out by IPPF and the purpose for the brochure targeted in the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute article republished in LifeNews:
A guide written for young people living with HIV to help them understand their rights, and live healthy, happy and sexually fulfilling lives.
http://www.ippf.org/en/Resources/Guides-toolkits/
Anybody think LifeNews has an agenda of sorts?
http://www.lifenews.com/about.html
I can't see these pamphlets being touted by the GSA or showing up in anybody's box of Thin Mints - however, I can see them (along with all the other pamphlets available from all the attending NGOs) being displayed and distributed for informational purposes in regards to an NGOs focus during a global conference such as the one held by the ECOSOC.
And so it goes...

From the IPPF pamphlet.
Quote:
This guide is for:- young people who are living with HIV or who have a partner who is living with HIV
- young people who have recently been diagnosed with HIV as well as those have been living with HIV for a while or since birth
- young people living with HIV who are married, in a relationship with one or more partners, as well as those who are single, dating, or just want to have sex
- young people living with HIV who are just starting to think about dating and sex as well as those who have more experience
- all young people living with HIV: men, women, transgender people and those who are figuring out their gender identity
- young people living with HIV who are interested in dating and having sex with people of the same sex or opposite sex, as well as those who are exploring and questioning their sexual orientation

The IPPF's definition of "young people" is individuals between 10 and 24.

Well, that allows plenty of room for pedophilia and predators.

Hmmm ...
Now if we could just get the girls to give their mothers those pamphlets, there might be many more happy husbands in the world ...

Defining "young people," discussing HIV/AIDS
FWIW, a table listing ages of consent is available here.
From the Economist. Source is here. Graph is there.
Quote:
HIV in young people
Unequally at risk
May 7th 2009
From Economist.com
Two-thirds of young people with HIV are girls
YOUNG women are suffering disproportionately from HIV and AIDS according to a new report from UNICEF UK. Two-thirds of the 5.5m people aged 15-24 living with HIV are female. The biggest difference among the sexes is in sub-Saharan Africa, home to 3.4m of young HIV sufferers, where young females are around three times more likely to have HIV than males. Girls are more at risk through poor education, having multiple sexual partners or having sex with older men. Elsewhere in the developing world, it is young men who are more likely to have HIV.
|
Avert, a charity, puts forth the case for young people receiving AIDS education as an important tool in stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS here.
