Indonesia mulls tearing down Obama statue
Indonesia mulls tearing down Obama statue
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...k4Y8UFGhAJkDpg
Have to say - if there is a side to this - that I'm on President Obama's side on this.
".....Members of the "Take Down the Barack Obama Statue in Menteng Park" group on Facebook say Obama has done nothing for Indonesia.
"Barack Obama has yet to make a significant contribution to the Indonesian nation. We could say Obama only ate and s (expletive) in Menteng. He spent his subsequent days living as an American," the web page says........"
They put up a statue of him as a kid, saying it was a message to kids to study hard. Now since he has not done anything (money) for Indonesia they want to take it down. They've only given him a year - we get to give him another three.

Interesting message
Interesting cultural message. On the one hand the message is study hard Indonesian kids and you too can be come POTUS, which you think would hold less prestige than being the leader of Indonesia for Indonesians. The take it down after a year request seems manic, but makes me wonder what exactly did these people think they were promised? Perhaps this is yet another instance of the shortcomings of "diplomacy by biography" approach.

I think they should take it down simply because it is one damn ugly statue.

Such is the risk in awarding accolades well before they have been earned. As with the " me too" peace prize, way too early for such recognition.
BTW, are there any al gore statues out there???
My $.02.

I don't know which bothers me more them erecting a statue of Obama in the first place or them considering tearing it down because we haven't done anything for them lately. Both positions are equally stupid.

Interesting message...
The One certainly cringes at the thought of his statue being torn down....so what does he do?
