Sig 225?

Somebody made me an offer that could not be refused. I picked up a Sig 225 for a HiPoint price.

The gun is a 9mm single stack (8+1) date coded 1999. It is in very good shape with dim SigLights. It came with 5 factory mags and 2 junkers(promag?) and a cheap plastic holster.

Does anyone have experience with this particular pistol? It probably would not be the first choice for a quiet pro going down range but it feels good for a house gun or carry by an old guy like me. I fired two mags at a indoor range before they closed. It shoots better than I do.

As soon as the weather clears up, I intend to give it a good wringing out.

Chances are almost certain that you picked up one of the many German police trade-in's that came on the market in the past few years or so. Should have run you between $299 and $399, right?

The only two things that make those pistols so inexpensive (notice I did not say "cheap") is the fact that they were deptartment issued pistols purchased originally between the late '70s and mid '80s...and the fact that they were of the P225 design (Single stacked 9mm vs. P226 Double stacked 9mm).

That being said, any Sig Sauer manufactured pistol that is in good working order is going to be a quality piece of gear. The pistol you happened across at fair price was not an anomaly, but rather just an older design that was used for over 20 years by the German police force.

The quality of your purchase should become more and more obvious the more you shoot it.

In '97 I bought an early '80s model P220 (.45 ACP), complete with European mag release, for about $350 and it still runs like a top to this day.

Justaguy,

This is a commercial 225 in the factory box with target, etc. It has the solid hammer unlike the curious slotted hammer on the P-6. Nothing against the P-6, I would be happy to own one at the price that I paid for the 225.

Markings are "Sig 225, Exeter, NH"

It feels good, I look forward to feeding it some of my handloads.

Thanks for the response.

I carry a SIG P6 ( Police version of the 225) as one of my CCW pistols.

I love it, i will never get rid of it. It's a little heavier than my Glock, but it'small enough that I forget I have it on. It's thinner than the Glock too.

You picked up a sweet pistol...Enjoy.

The only pistol better than my Sig 225 is the Sig 245 that I currently carry...

I never had an issue with either gun.

Sig 225 is rather rare these days.. you got a good deal.

Wife and I picked up a 225 and 220 at Patch first tour (95). Absolutley wonderful set, although I do believe she has a preference now for my 220. I enjoyed also the fact the single stack 225 fit my 220 holsters. Only issue I have now is the lack of an integral light rail like the newer model sig's.

Great firearm.
