Chances are almost certain that you picked up one of the many German police trade-in's that came on the market in the past few years or so. Should have run you between $299 and $399, right?
The only two things that make those pistols so inexpensive (notice I did not say "cheap") is the fact that they were deptartment issued pistols purchased originally between the late '70s and mid '80s...and the fact that they were of the P225 design (Single stacked 9mm vs. P226 Double stacked 9mm).
That being said, any Sig Sauer manufactured pistol that is in good working order is going to be a quality piece of gear. The pistol you happened across at fair price was not an anomaly, but rather just an older design that was used for over 20 years by the German police force.
The quality of your purchase should become more and more obvious the more you shoot it.
In '97 I bought an early '80s model P220 (.45 ACP), complete with European mag release, for about $350 and it still runs like a top to this day.
