It is with great sadness that the UDT-SEAL Association informs the membership about the passing of LT John "Jack" Lynch USN (RET), Class 29 and President - UDT-SEAL Association.
Jack suffered a cardiac arrest due to arrhythmia on February 2, 2010. Jack's condition remained critical and unresponsive, requiring life support. Due to the severe brain damage which occurred as a result of the lack of oxygen during his cardiac arrest, and upon consultations with the attending physicians, the difficult decision to suspend life support was made by Jack's family.This decision was made due to a prognosis of little or no improvement in the quality of life, and the known wishes of Jack.
Jack was removed from life support on Saturday, February 13th at 3:00pm and had been moved to a private room. He remained as comfortable as possible with his family at his side. The care Jack had been receiving from the medical staff at the hospital was of great comfort and support to the family.
Jack completed his mission and reported for a new assignment yesterday at 4:20pm with his family at his side.
Details regarding services will be forwarded as soon as they are available.
The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation marked "Building Fund in memory of Jack Lynch".

Jack Lynch
Jack retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer then later as LT. his highest rank held. He served as a senior enlisted and officer in operational commands with key positions in operations, intelligence, training, research and development, test and evaluation with operational and international experience. After Navy Boot Camp he served as a cook and deck seamen onboard a fleet tug and graduated from Underwater Demolition Team, Replacement Training Class 29 in 1963. He then served with Underwater Demolition Team 21, and SEAL Team 2. During these assignments his duties were: cartographer, communicator, sub ops, swimmer delivery vehicle pilot and Navy SEAL Instructor. He taught communication, demolitions and combat firearms courses. He made numerous operational and combat deployments, special assignments and Mobile Training Team detachments. Jack attended Second, First Class and Saturation Diving School and was assigned to the Navy Experimental Diving Unit as a human test subject. He assisted in testing and evaluating new diving equipment for Naval Special Warfare community and Navy diving programs, improvement of diving and treatment tables, and development of saturation diving tables. Jack was assigned to Naval Sea Systems Command and State Department assisting Navy Supervisor of Salvage for the Suez Canal Clearance in 1974. His experience with explosives was instrumental in developing techniques using shape charges in sectioning ships. Upon return to Experimental Diving Unit in 1975, he was team leader on the first 1000 foot saturation dive in the Ocean Simulation Facility, Panama City, FL. Jack was selected and served with Chief of Naval Operations Special Project where he was an operational team leader for classified operations. Upon commissioning Jack assumed duties onboard the USS Sperry (AS-12) as the Ships Boatswain and Diving Officer. He was responsible for all diving operations and qualified as Officer of the deck in port, underway, and received a “Succession to Command” letter from his Commanding Officer. In 1980 he assumed duties as Officer in Charge Navy School Deep Diving Systems and Diving Officer of the MK II Deep Diving System. He responsibilities included system certification, system maintenance, student training, curriculum development and their execution. He was responsible for development and execution of various dive profiles up to and including 1000-foot open sea saturation dives. Jack is a qualified Navy SEAL, Surface Warfare Officer, Navy Parachutist, Saturation Diving and Salvage Officers. He has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Master Firearms Instructor Certification. Since retirement, Jack consulted with numerous organizations in his diversified areas of expertise; he was also Commercial Pilot with Eastern Airlines and Deputy Sheriff for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He consults as a Maritime Security Analyst with various agencies providing security training and operational support. He provides contract work within and outside of the Maritime Industry performing Security Assessments, Security Awareness and Anti-Terrorist Training. He has provided training for the FBI and DEA International Programs. He is currently a Senior Operations Planner with the National Security Directorate of Oak Ridge Instituted for Science and Education, supporting sensitive government programs. Jack serves as President of the UDT-SEAL Association, Director, Naval Special Warfare Foundation, and Director, UDT-SEAL Museum.
