Could you pass the 8th grade?

http://mwhodges.home.att.net/1895-test.htm

Don't think I'd pass it.

Notice the footnote:
Quote:
An interesting note is the fact that county students taking this test were allowed to take the test in the 7th grade, and if they did not pass the test at that time, they were allowed to re-take it again in the 8th grade.

Crap. I couldn't pass it if it was (were?) an open book test and I had a library card!

'Tis "were"

When speaking in the hypothetical past tense, use the plural verb form.

Then again, I went to U.S. schools so I might not know what I'm talking about. The education system is really frustrating for students who actually want to learn. Does anyone know Why the test asks for the rules Of capitalization and then Randomly abuses Them? Have the rules changed?

I believe that test is a myth. Not sure but I seem to remember that the test was proven false.

Then again I could be wrong.

The Snopes' response is about what I would expect from them.

Lack of respect for the Arts and Multiculturalism, and all that.

Test seems as if it was a real exam - not as difficult as some would think - as with most tests, relevancy to the use of common terms is of importance in understanding what is being required - same arguments apply to ACT/SAT and NCLB standardized testing used today - look at the answers (button at the bottom of the test) posted at the Univ of Houston's Digital History link below and decide for yourself.

Wink Hmmmm

Can the person who developed these questions move about OCONUS in small groups unnoticed?

Stay safe.
