U.S. Releases Secret List of Nuclear Sites Accidentally
William Broad, NYT, 2 Jun 2009

The federal government mistakenly made public a 266-page report, its pages marked “highly confidential,” that gives detailed information about hundreds of the nation’s civilian nuclear sites and programs, including maps showing the precise locations of stockpiles of fuel for nuclear weapons.

The publication of the document was revealed Monday in an on-line newsletter devoted to issues of federal secrecy. That publicity set off a debate among nuclear experts about what dangers, if any, the disclosures posed. It also prompted a flurry of investigations in Washington into why the document was made public.

On Tuesday evening, after inquiries from The New York Times, the document was withdrawn from a Government Printing Office Web site.

Anyone know what agency was responsible for the mishap?

This seems to be a common pattern with the Obama administration. Release something, change your position when there is outrage, and then claim nothing of this nature will be made available again.

The NYT article gives the Government Printing Office the credit for posting this 266 page doc on it's website.

I found Sec Deutch's comment a bit troubling.....more so since he is a Prof. @ MIT.

Not sure how much immediate damage this has caused, but I'll bet this will save terrorists a ton of leg work.

My $.02.

I'm stunned that information like this is being made available for the terrorists...... How could this just have been a "my bad"? What a screwed up admission this is..........

I would wager that some potential enemies just updated their target lists as well.

People need to start going to prison for leaking classified info, I don't care how senior or privileged they are.
