Prior Service Marine 0313

I have searched this topic long and hard on this forum and others but have not found any answer. I am a former Marine 0311 and 0313 which is a rifleman and a LAV crewman, finishing my 8 year obligation in February of 2007. I have recently just reenlisted in the Army as an 18x and will be shipping on March 18th to Fort Benning. Currently my paper work shows me attending the full 18x pipeline, is this correct? I thought my Marine infantry MOS (0311) would convert to 11b and I would not have to return to basic or infantry school. Does anyone know what my pipeline should or will be? If I am required to do both basic and infantry school again I will do it without a complaint but I would prefer to not have to do it as an E-5.

What does your contract, and ATRRS say?

My contract says Special Forces Recruit 18x.
Prereq: Location Benning, start date 20090327 14 weeks 0 days
Prereq: Location Benning, start date 20090703 5 weeks 4 days
OSUT: Location Benning, start date 20090811 3 weeks 2 days

I was actually at MEPS today taking my DLAB (got a 94) and my recruiter asked the career counselor this question and she said that all 18x contracts are the same even if you are prior service. She says that once I get to Benning that they will put me in the right place. I hate to second guess them but that doesn't sound right to me, sounds like she dosen't want to deal with the issue. I feel like I am going to get stuck in some kind of holding platoon while they figure me out.

We had a prior service Navy guy in our OSUT. He was on an 18x contract and showed up several weeks into the cycle. I would recommend asking a different counselor.

As a prior service Infantry reclass I can tell you what happened when I was there a few years ago. We were told at reception that ideally if you have a current weapons qual they put you into OSUT after weapons density. But we had so many soldiers reclassing that they stuck us where ever they could. I got lucky and showed up at the end of week 9. But my room mate had been there since week 4. Here is the kicker. He was an E-5 former Marine as well. Not only that, he was a mortarman in the Corp. And guess what? He got to go throught almost all of 11C OSUT. And yes, for the most part he got treated like a private. Until we went to the mortar square, where it was suddenly convenient to treat him like the NCO he was so he could be an instructor.

But whatever, Big Army is not a gentle lover. Suck it up and drive on. As a soldier granted the priveledge of even getting the chance to attend the Q course I can tell you ANYTHING they throw your way is worth it.

Just my humble, insignificant .02

When I went through OSUT last year I ran into a couple of re-classes. More than likely you will be dropped in on the 10th week right before AIT. Then onto Airborne hold after graduation. Although, I did hear of some re-classes that got dropped in on the 3rd and 6th week into BCT. Good Luck!

Thank you for all of your responses, I feel like I have some what of a grasp of what could happen to me. I just didn't want to be taking the career planner's word for it but I guess she is right. What ever they throw at me, I just can't wait to get started. Again thank you and maybe I will eventually join the ranks of the QP.

Looks like you have a break in service, that plays a factor in what you can do.

I did the Marine to 18Xray thing in '02-'03. There was one Marine who showed up with us who got out of OSUT but he was right out of the Corps. His contract had him reporting to Benning and going to Airborne School. This was the only thing that got him out.

I started week 7 (range week) because i didnt have a range card. I got my Drill Sgt helper badge (it was nice to have an E-5 to run details (me)).

Well at this point I will just have to be prepared for anything. I just got a PM from a former Marine who was out for 2 years and when he went to Benning he went straight to Jump school. He is currently waiting to start phase 2 of the Q. It looks like this works on a case by case basis and I will just have to go in prepared to do it all. Thank you for your help.

I have been out for far too long to answer your question. These men (QP's) know far more then I do about current SF training/qualification. What do you think the Corps would expect from any SF prior service NCO who enlisted in the Corps for Force Recon?
