Sentencing Complete...
A quick update and recap...
The drunk driver that killed my little brother (Dan) this past Feb was sentenced this week.
15 yrs for the death of my brother - will serve 4 in a federal penetentiary without chance of parole or early release
5 years for the malaicious wounding of Dan's passenger and best friend (Jason) - will serve 6 months.
All total a twenty year sentence with 4.5 years to serve and the rest will be probation. He has been in county jail for just over 5 months after tampering with his ankle tracker and disabling the brethalyzer and camera in his vehicle when he was initially released after his arrest.
The sentence was TWICE what the prosecutor / Commonwealth Attorney anticipated (thought 2 years tops) so my folks are as satisfied as they can be with the outcome.
Though nothing will bring Dan back, this result is much preferred over him walking out time served; which was appareantly a very real possibility.
Thank you all for your support during this time. I know I have not been around much these past few months. You, are my friends and in many cases my extended family. You are appreciated.
Be well-
Joe

May your little brother rest in peace!
While the sentence is twice what was expected, it somehow does not seem to be enough!
Prayers out for you and your family.

As you know we are sorry for your loss and I am glad they gave him time. So many get off with little to nothing.

Joe:
Again I am sorry for your loss. The judicial system has never been good at handling out the deserved sentence but at least he didnt get off with nothing.
May your brother's memory live on in your heart forever...

Joe,
Nothing will ever replace your Brother. It's good to hear that your family is at least satisfied with the sentence - it sounds like this guy has serious issues...

Thanks fellas.
I DO know that everyone here has been very supportive, not only immediately after but since he was killed as well. You were all there when he was killed and shared in it with my family and I. It is only fitting that you are a part of the finalization.
I just wanted to share the update now that there is closure.
Closure is good for us all.
Joe

One down and all the rest to go. Great to see that the Judges are going after Drunk Drivers and hitting them hard. I hope he has opportunities to think about why he is in prison. My deepest condolences.

Agreed nmap, the system did not fail this time. My most sincere condolences to you and your family Eagle. May the bastard trip down the metal stairs while mopping up.
In pace requiescat Dan.
