Chinese Women's Gymnastics Team disqualified
8/20/2008, 2:54 p.m. EDT
BEIJING, China (PR) -- The Chinese Women's Gymnastics Team may have taken the Olympic Gold Medal in team competition, but were officially disqualified earlier today due to age falsification.
News sources had reported over the weekend that at least three members of the team submitted falsified papers to appear older. Suspicions were initially raised when one Olympic official spotted off-camera gymnasts holding teddy bears. One was reportedly overheard asking for instructions on how to hook her bra, and another for assistance cleaning herself after (loosely translated) "making poopies." Recordings from locker room security cameras have confirmed that several team members had cartoon characters on their panties.
Minutes after today's press conference, witnesses saw the ex-medalists being whisked away in an unmarked vehicle. One gymnast tossed a crumpled note from the speeding car which said "Phelps has cootees." [sic]

As of 08/21/08 16:04 UTC, I have found nothing down this line other than this story from 8/14/2008.

State-media story fuels questions on gymnast's age

The Associated Press
BEIJING (AP) — Just nine months before the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government's news agency, Xinhua, reported that gymnast He Kexin was 13, which would have made her ineligible to be on the team that won a gold medal this week.

Damn I got my hopes up... China will throw that 'little age oversight' into their pyres of history. Kudos Gypsy!

Gypsy--
You may not be far from the truth on this one... aside from the teddy bears and cooties http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/spo...cle4583174.ece
The IOC would regain some respect in my eyes and I'm sure many others if they pursue this, since they really screwed the pooch by allowing Beijing to get away with the crap they pulled. This would cause some serious drama within the Chinese nation. Oh well, you reap what you sow.

This may need to go to 'The Irony Zone'
from Chinadaily.com.cn sharing the Olympic spirit :

The 14-year-old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months. She will be just one more weapon on an already star-studded Chinese Olympic squad.

Conclusions
What is this post really about? I don't really feel that it's about the gymnastics age limit, or even really about whether fraud occurred. At this point, I believe that any reasonable observer already understands that age records have been forged. This story now is really about Internet censorship, the act of removing evidence while at the same time claiming that the evidence is wrong. For the first time I watched search records shift under my feet like sand, facts draining down a hole in the Internet. Will this stand?

As Pete stated I posted it in comedy...if it was real news I'd have posted it elsewhere.
But...I'm glad to see that the IOC will be investigating.

Right from the start people noted the "change" in some of the girl's ages from other events. People have been banging the drum for action for over a week. The Chicoms said "Here are their passports" and continued to drive on.
A web hacker found cached web pages of the Chicom team that had their real ages - a page that is missing from the "Updated" pages.
The IOC is rolling over for the Chicoms this year.

First time I saw the team I thought geez they look young, then chalked it up to me feeling old.
It is unbelievable how they IOC is rolling. While I feel bad for the Chinese girls, I believe those medals need to be stripped. If they are allowed to retain them these Olympic events will be nothing but a sham.

any gymnastic expert here?
I wonder if the girls would still win had there been no age restrictions. Just how great were they compared to past and present standards?
The girls gave all they got. China should be penalized, not them
