FINALLY

There were three things I wanted to be in High School. Green Beret/Cop/Park Ranger. I already knocked out the GB profession. Tomorrow I graduate the Federal Police Academy, so that makes two. Don't know if ill make it to the Park Ranger profession. But you never know.
The FLETC course I attended was the 13 week basic Academy. Because we worked six days a week we only had to stay ten weeks. Here are some observations. I did have to bite my tongue on occasions and remind myself this is a basic course. The average age in my class was around 23 years old. I am 44.
Physically=Outstanding. They don't do PT like the Army. Very few formation runs. All the physical exercise is run in conjunction with your Hand to Hand training/Officer Response Training. By far the best part of the program. Lots of time in the Mat Room getting your Heart rate up then being forced to perform various moves/task.

Marksmanship= Very basic. But you get what you put into it. If they give you 10 seconds for a failure drill+Tac Reload then two more to the chest. Taking the whole 10 seconds when you can do it in 5 is your lose.

Academics= The legal stuff was all new and very interesting to me. Studying was required. But not a whole lot. I imagine State and City Police Academy's are much more demanding.

Op Skills= Another good part of the program. Basically you role up on scene. They have role players and some type of scenario you have to deal with. From deadly force to handling someones Cat in a tree. Not really a Cat in a tree but you get the idea.

Overall I am glad its finally done. Now I can legally put the Boots to people

Which branch will you be working with?

The reason I ask is based on my personal research the federal agencies are very specific about not being over 37 at time of appointment (i.e. before FLETC). That was true for State/DSS, FBI and Secret Service. Not sure what else is out there or waiver options.

This obviously isn't true in your case...just curious.

Ill be home this weekend. I won't be working for any Federal Agency, thank God. In order for us to be Sworn in as Marshall's for Amtrak we ex SF Guys have to attend FLETC. The prior LEO'S from State agencies who work for us are not required to attend FLETC.
Also age has nothing to do with being to old, it's all in your head.....

Federal LEO takes the years of service in the military and subtracts that from the age limit. At least it did when I applied. If you have 4 years active duty the limit goes up to 41, and so on.

Couldn't agree more. The age limit for federal law enforcement needs to be done away with. I think they are losing out on a lot of quality people.

Good Luck with your new career!!
