Father's Day Gift Ideas
June 17th is Father's Day so I thought it would be nice to share some ideas of what to give the Dad in your life.
Here's what my son (10yrs old) bought for his dad and it made me cry.
A frame that holds a 3X5 picture on one side and this poem is on the other side.
MY HERO
When freedom needed Heroes
To answer duty's call
You packed your bag and left home
For the greater good of All.
And though I can't be with you,
I still do understand,
You have an important job to do
In a distant foreign land.
You represent so many things
Even though you are not here
Courage, Faith, and Honor.
The message is quite clear.
So, until your job is finished
And you're back home to stay
Remember, YOU ARE MY HERO
And in my prayers each day.

Zac misses Dad and I know Dad misses him but having a picture of them together is good for Chuck. It reminds him of why this fight is important.
We also sent a copy of Tim Russert's Wisdom of Our Fathers. There's a blank page in the front of the hardcover editions (don't know if it's in the paperback version) and Zac wrote a letter to his dad on that page.
There are wives/moms/girlfriends who read this forum who aren't registered or who don't post for whatever reason so I'm giving a couple of ideas to those who aren't speaking up.
It would be really cool if you guys would tell us what you want for Father's Day. I didn't buy anything for the SF soldier at our house yet mostly because I don't know what to get for him. I could sure use some help and am probably not alone on this.
You guys want to 'fess up on what you really want for Father's Day

Wow, looks like he got his writing skills from his Mom.
The usual list would be just fine.
Guns, ammo, accessories, scooter parts, Craftsman tools, camping gear, field clothing, athletic equipment, cool t-shirts, good books or DVDs, cool gadgets, personal mementos, etc. Forget the ties, after shave, and dress up clothing.
Hope that helps.

Thank you so much but I have to admit that the honor goes to a lady by the name of Beth Murphy who wrote the poem for her son, an active duty soldier. A portion of the proceeds goes to support our troops.
The idea for tools is excellent. Thank you again.

Beautiful poem. I think that would make any Dad on this board proud- or Grandfather for that matter!

Gotta forward that to my family. Actually have them (family) is gift enough.

Just to know that my kids are happy, healthy, and following their dreams despite the fact that while I may be their father I wasn't around that much to influence the outcome as their Dad.

I dig just being home for a change. This will be the first Father's Day with both kids, and just the second spent with my 5 year old.
