First time gun buyer

I'm saving up my money to purchase a rifle (carbine actually) it's going to be the first time I've bought a weapon.

I want something that's close to what the Army has (M4 to be precise) my budget will be $1,000 total (below $800 preferred)

And I was wondering what you QPs would recommend, reasons why:

Higher familiarity with M4/M16 style firearms

Something fun to shoot at a range, (or go hunting with, I know 5.56X45 isn't much of hunting, but it can definitely take down a buck, I know this from National Guardsmen who've "accidentally" shot Deer during weekend Drills when they used live rounds at a "shooting range"......)

Something I can play with (as a hobby) such as:Modify (play with different butt stocks, receivers, etc. in other words, more modular the better).

Rifles I"m currently looking at (although not restricted to this site, any sources you guys can show would be greatly appreciated)

But a style I really like is the M4A3/M16A4 style (removable carry handle for Picatanny Rail system)

thank you for all/any advice.

Before TR has to say it.

Search button is your friend. There's plenty of QP opinions on various M4/AR15 threads if you do some digging. AR15.com is also a great resource.

Draco:

This isn't ar15.com or military.com.

You need to be posting less often and with smarter questions.

If you want to pad your post count, I suggest the Birthday forum.
