Deer Hunting?
Anyone out there gearing up, or bagged any this year? I've spent a little time in the woods with the bow, but didn't see anything pointy enough. Did some foodplot prep and some scouting. Rifle season starts this weekend, but alas my son's final youth football game is Sat. I'll be in the woods by Sunday night, waiting on a trophy. Did someone say that LeMas makes a .300 WM? It would be interesting to do some live tissue tests on the does that frequent my peanut fields right at dark. Non-scientific of course.
FWIW, I seached and PM'd for the correct forum to place this post. If there's a better suited place, please inform.

I sat around this moring, 0500-0700, with the cross bow and saw nothing. Found some prints in the mud by a small pond, but nothing crossed our way.
On the drive home, of course, two does and and a buck crossed the road in front of us.
Muzzle loader starts this weekend. I bore scoped the new Leopold this week. We'll see.

I'm planning to go out deer hunting at the next Roar.
Once I've got a rifle that is LOL. (Should be soon).

I doubt it.
Do you mean you bore"sighted", or is there a black powder rifle named Leopold?
A bore scope is an expensive lighted periscope used to examine the inside of rifle bores. I see no way to get one into a Leupold unless they are making rifles now.

TR,
Damn, I was just going to edit that comment, and you made a nice catch !!
In fact I did "BORE SIGHT" the rifle, then adjusted the Leopold scope according to the eyeball. No lasers or collimater sight here. Just an eyeball on a white target at 50 meters (measured with a range finder) with orange dot as the point of POA. The rifle its self is the Knight "Vision" .50

This is the first year KY has gotten its act together and placed Crossbow season where it should be. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to slip into the woods. I had been using my crossbow during modern gun and muzzleloader for some time. With a good crossbow I really didn't see the point in buying a muzzleloader.

Actually, up here there are not that many cross bow hunters, but muzzle loading seems to be fairly popular. Most, it seems, tag their first deer of the year with the muzzle loader.

I've been resisting the temptation to immerse myself into yet another hobby (black powder), but it's about time. Several years ago GA put in a muzzleloader season between bow and modern firearms. The regs are loose, (not limited to traditional) so it's effectively pulled the firearms season up a week, resulting in the deer being pressured by the time I get to the woods.
Rifle season starts tomorrow here, and work is crawling up my rear. I'm Mr. Mom this weekend, and planned on taking Mon & Tues off to be in the woods. With the way work is going, I might not be too choosey about letting does walk.

You miss understood me.
I was being sarcastic referring to putting magnification on a muzzle loader. That is not very "primitive" and is illegal in my state during "primitive" weapon season. You guys have it easy up there. You might as well be hunting with sniper rifle at most deer hunting ranges. Modern pyrodex muzzle loaders, saboted bullets, and high quality glass on top is FAR from being primitive weapon season. I agree COL Moroney... run bambi RUN!!! haha
NOw, my pimped out compound bow with mechanical release and carbon fiber arrows is completely different. I am a real purist too. LOL

Sarcasm ?..............hey, where's the admin ??? Actually it is pretty funny that we do scope out muzzle loaders, but then again cross bows are usually sporting a high powered scope to !!
This morning I had one buck in my sights that appeared to be a 6x6 but he was smart enough to get behind some thickets and stay put till I couldn't see him anymore. This place has been hunted so much that I actually think they (Deer) have a personal calendar for deer season and know to get behind something so we cant take clear shots at them. Damn deer, their getting smarter and smarter each season.
As for purists, my neighbor actually uses an H&K 91 with Leopold 6.5-20x40....................now that's what we call "Puritism" up here.
