LT. Dan Band

I just caught the Lt Dan Band here at Carson. For those who have never heard of it the Lt. Dan Band is a group of professional musicians brought together by Garyt Sinise. During the week they have there regular jobs and on Saturdays they do USO shows all over the world. Sinise himself has been to Iraq twice. It was a really good show with a mix of classic rock and contemporary rock lasting about an hour and forty minutes plus an encore. Unlike other actors who have done musical projects, Sinise does not make himself the focus of the show. Here is a guy who not only supports the troops but actively supports the troops. Honestly, how many other Hollywood types are going to take their Saturday nights to come play for soldiers much less go to Iraq twice to play for the troops? This show is well worth your time and I would recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to see it.

Many Hollyweird types can learn from Mr. Sinise. UFC fighters also went to Iraq to visit the troops...video is on their website.

I was listening to sports talk radio today while training our new puppy!!! The host was lamenting he is incredibly bored. He does not know what to do with himself because our (Phillies) baseball team is bad, hockey is over, basketball is over and football has yet to start. He went on about how he is depressed and he has a plethora of free time but since his sports teams are either bad or off season has nothing to do. This lasted about 7-8 minutes. This guy is a regional celebrety and generally a good guy although he leans left slightly. It rubbed me the wrong way. Here I am suffering a nasty little stress fracture from heavy rucking and much much more importantly other soldiers fighting and dying down range. I called the station and spoke to him on the air. I mentioned to him all the local veterans homes and hospitals he can visit whose beds are filled with men wounded protecting his way of life. I went down a list of veterans charities including the SOWF website. I challenged him to use a small percentage of his considerable financial resources and apparent ample free time to help those men fighting for him and his family. He sounded contrite and talked to me briefly off the air taking some VA charity information I prepared for him including the SOWF website. Will he act on it???? who knows...but his eyes were definitely refocused and the point was made.

I have seen him on interviews & when the interviewers were trying to give attention & praise to him, Mr Sinese, in a very humble way, quickly redirected the attention towards the servicemen & women, whom he said were out there putting it on the line & deserved all the praise.
